Billy Leo Williams was born in Whistler, Alabama on June 15, 1938. He started his career in 1959, joining a team that would feature stars like Ernie Banks, Ron Santo, and Fergie Jenkins. Billy was selected as the National League Rookie Of The Year in 1961, and set a National League record for consecutive games played with 1,117 between 1962-1971. He was the Sporting News Player Of The Year in 1972, and a six-time National League All-Star.Billy finished his career in 1976, with 426 home runs, 1475 runs batted in, and a .290 batting average. He was elected to the Baseball Hall Of Fame in 1987, and his number 26 was retired by the Cubs the same year. He is currently an executive advisor for the team.
