It was a pleasure being able to play for the number of years I did and also being able to play relativly healthy. I was born in Havre de Grace Maryland and attended High School at Aberdeen High and played pitcher for the baseball team. I graduated in 1978 an I was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2nd round of the ameture draft in 1978 as a pitcher (most people don't know this). I have a wonderful wife Kelly and 2 children Rachel and Ryan. I played my first game on August 10th 1981 and began the first game of what has become the longest streak of games currently played on May 30th 1982 until Sept 19th 1998 (2632 consecutive games).During those years I had the pleasure of playing with my brother Billy Ripken and playing for my dad Cal Sr.Here are some of my many accomplishments. "No. 2,131" was ranked #5 in TV Guide's list of the "25 Most Awesome Sports Moments (of the last 15 years)". [17 July 2005 issue]Elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007. Selected by 537 voters and appeared on 98.53 percent of the ballots, to finish with the third-highest percentage behind Tom Seaver (98.84) and Nolan Ryan (98.79).Last but not least I want to thank everyone who came out and supported me during my induction to the Hall of Fame, I couldn't help but smile during the National Anthem when the entire crowed shouted out "O". It made me feel at home again. It was a great honor to be inducted with such an excellent player and person as Tony Gwynn. It is not very often where you will see two players inducted at the same time that played their entire careers with the same team. Please come out and support the Ironbirds.
