What's Wrong With: "It's All About Me?"

About Me

"So, you wanna be a movie star?" "Nah, I want to be a record producer." "That's even better." ANDY WARHOL "interviews" JIMMY SLOAN at age fourteen.Growing up in Hollywood during the golden period of "California Hardcore," I find it odd that the first band that I was in was a Punk / Funk outfit called Ella & The Blacks and not some mosh-pit grind outfit like TSOL (though I have worked with many of that genre including the aforementioned bunch and SOCIAL DISTORTION).Today I straddle the line between producing Ska/Funk/Punk originators FISHBONE, the self proclaimed "elder statesman of Indie-Rock", BRENT RADEMAKER'S FRAUSDOTS, and my new personal favorite: Indie/Folk/Pop singer/songwriter/Diva, KIM FOX.All this and I still have time to produce, engineer, co-write, and play slide guitar on legendary BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA'S own JOEY WILLIAM'S first solo LP—in-between his touring schedule with said band, picking up five Grammys in a row, and making live appearences with ROBERT RANDOLPH & THE (Eric Clapton envied) FAMILY BAND—as well as engineering, co-producing, and jamming with the legendary TRULIO DISGRACIOUS. This notorious off-shoot of founding FISHBONE bass player NORWOOD FISHER'S warped musical abilty and mind is finally tracking their long anticipated debut album at my tranquil Hollywood Hills residental (YES, YOU CAN LIVE HERE WHILE YOU ROCK!) recording studio: THE NEW KING SOUND.Over the past four years, THE NEW KING SOUND has been the host of many a recording experience. Not only those already mentioned, and not just with JIMMY SLOAN at the helm, there has been everyone from producer extraordinare DAVID GAMSON to sought after mixer ROBERT CARRANZA twidling the knobs (virtual as well as VINTAGE!) While SLOAN still found time to engineer for artists as diverse as jam junkies THE WARLOCKS to Jewish Lesbian Folk Singer PHRANC and modern torch Grunger, GREG DULLI.You may ask: Why THE "NEW" KING SOUND? Well let me tell you about the 'ole KING SOUND & PICTURES, my former recording lair. Home to Platnum records by JACK JOHNSON ("BRUSHFIRE FAIRYTALES") and ROD STEWART ("IT HAD TO BE YOU...THE GREAT AMERICAN SONG BOOK"). Though NIKKA COSTA'S American debut "EVERYBODIE'S GOT THEIR SUNSHINE" went Gold, and SOCIAL DISTORTION'S, "LIVE AT THE ROXY" only sold well over 100,000 copies, albums produced by SLOAN by artists such as THROW RAG, THE HANGMEN, THE CARTER BROTHERS, THE WATTS PROPHETS, and tons of engineering on projects with MICHELLE NDEGEOCELLO, THE OFFSPRING, BUSTA RHYMES, JENNIFER LOPEZ, SCRITTI POLLITI, DELLA REESE, WEEZER, and WAYNE KRAMER & BRIAN JAMES may or may have not made their money back, THE BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA, "I BROUGHT HIM WITH ME," which JIMMY SLOAN and JOEY WILLIAMS mixed for HOB/BMG was nominated for a GRAMMY for BEST TRADITIONAL SOUL / GOSPEL RECORDING.I guess that's why I also play in a band called THE GROOVE DIVINITIES, a Soul / Blues / Indie thang that can be found on My Space as Well. Oh yeah and did I tell you that TGD's album was recorded at both studios over the last five years?
