During the roaring 80s, he pinballed from gig to gig, blowing with mainstay the D.I.s, working with Thelonious Monster at their chaotic height, recording with the Hangmen, the Leaving Trains and, as Frenchie says, with all these glam bands that wanted a harp player for one song. But it was with his own post-DIs band, the Purple Gang, that he was able to exhibit what hes really all about: a tough, rocked-up, low-down brand of blues voltage that invariably delves into the most visceral essentials of a song. Hes been missing in action for far too long (I had to take some time off, due to a misunderstanding with the state of California, he explains, which wasnt a bad experience for a bluesman), but any caper involving the Purple Gang is guaranteed to thrill.
