Transmission LIVE! September 19th:
About The Bands:
THE TOUCH
If members of ‘Tokyo Police Club’ and ‘Bloc Party’ met in a seedy bar they would Sound something like The Touch. Lucky for the Adelaide indie scene five like-minded lads have beaten them to it. With a reputation for inducing dance floor disorder, The Touch’s frenetic live show projects filthy bass lines, driving drum beats and spasmodic dance moves throughout the crowd.
“They could be compared to Simon Le Bon from Duran Duran fronting Bloc Party†FasterLouder.com.au
On the verge of completing their debut EP, there is growing hype surrounding its release. They have already supported the likes of Van She, The Galvatrons, Grafton Primary, The E.L.F and The Scientists of Modern Music which has lead to a keen following of indie kids and local trend setters. The remainder of 2008 is already looking busy with an upcoming slot at Parklife and The Shores New Years Day festival.
After forming late 2007, The Touch had no expectation of where their music would take them. “We just wanted to make music that was fun and people could actually dance to†says Hooper. After playing their first show at a popular local venue, the boys realized they were onto something and worked to refine their sound. Walkden comments “Like Chad said, we wanted to make dance music but it had to be raw, without keyboards or backing tracks.†Moore adds, “And when we say dancy we don’t mean nodding heads, we mean people just getting loose and out of control.â€
National recognition is just beginning following their selection from over 700 bands as a finalist in the MTV Kickstart competition.
“ Tonight The Touch explode all over the stage like a Molotov cocktail thrown through a police car window, like a pack of hyenas let loose throughout a kindergarten, or more accurately like a packet of pop rocks dropped into a Pepsi. not since Nick Johnston from Cut Off Your Hands got crowd surfed up to the ceiling and knocked out half of the lights at the Modular party back in September 2007 has the live stage at Rocket Bar seen such a ridiculous display in excitable and epileptic excess†MTV Kickstart
You can bet they won’t be holding back with plans to take their raw indie dance sound the world.
“These new kids on the block have already sculpted a name for themselves†Rip it Up Mag
“They sure as fuck know how to throw a wild party†FasterLouder.com.au
THE TRAFALGERS
The Trafalgars formed in 2002 in the Barossa Valley, South Australia, where the boys grew up and attended school together. Sharing a love of bands such as Even, You am I, The Kinks, The Who, The Small Faces, Supergrass, and a plethora of rock and roll based acts, the boys began practicing away in the pool room, assembling a swag of catchy tunes. An “Oh crap we’re not quite ready for this!!!!†level of success was achieved at an alarming rate for the boys, where they played a “shiteload†of local and interstate gigs, honing their live act and building a following. Moving from the Barossa to Adelaide last year the boys built a make shift studio in their lounge room to record a selection of new tunes they’d written since their last release. Thus far they have recorded around 20 new tracks, which are ready to be released upon the world for their debut album and your listening pleasure?. “All the days and the nights†a demo track the boys recorded was sent in to Triple J by a friend and is now receiving airplay and great reviews.
The Trafalgers have achieved alot over the past few years including Winning the Falls Festival Competition and playing the main stage 2005/2006, Recorded both CD releases with Craig Harnath at Hot House Studios in Melbourne (Oasis, Franz Ferdinand, Wilco, Jet), Debut EP “Thankyou Captain†Received DB Readers award for “Best EPâ€, and Awesam award for most popular “pop†act. Single “London Taxi†received high rotation on Triple J for several months. Was nominated for Hottest 100, and made 21 on Triple J’s Net 50. Recorded live set at Triple J studio for Home and Hosed, Follow up release AA side “Sit With Me/ Sunny Side Driveâ€. Sit with me received air play on Triple J, Nova, Triple M and various local radio stations nationally and was nominated for Triple J Hottest 100. Received a Contemporary Music Touring Grant and toured the Eastern states. Various sold out shows including Ding Dong Melbourne and Jive Adelaide. Twice voted best Independent release by Superusers on Triple J’s Unearthed.

NOONJOKER
Well.
Noonjoker is not ‘Indie’ (whatever that means). They are not ambient-psychedelia-blues-funk-Christian-rock and certainly not ‘emo’. Nor do they fit into the somewhat alienated genre of ‘alternative’. This pop culture does not belong to them. Sorry.
Writing good songs and playing them well are the primary focus of the good ol’ NJ. And sure. Like most bands, Noonjoker likes to think it has created it’s very own unique blend of moosic. But you can judge that for yourself.
They are merely five Amish guys from Adelaide. Drums, guitar, bass, keys and vocals. Their music is pretty much their songs. It’s all about the tone, really.
Cheers.
Transmission LIVE! Halloween Special October 31st:
About the Bands
On October 31, the boundary between the alive and the deceased dissolves and Young & Restless storm Adelaide for their first headline show in over a year at the Transmission LIVE! Halloween Special.
KEEP searching for protection.
Since being brought together by forces unknown in 2005, Young & Restless have been constantly touring the country, melting faces, and kicking out the jams. Being the first winners of Triple J's Unearthed J Award, big things were expected. And the angry kids from Canberra did not disappoint. Through moving across the country and a lineup change or two, the band remains as tight as ever, ready to destroy some speakers and consume your soul.
BEATING hearts silenced by pounding drums.
It was once whispered in hushed tones amongst schoolgirls at slumber parties that if the words "Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire!" were spoken thirteen times by candlelight that the ghost of forgotten discos past would come back to forever haunt them. That being said, F!SRF! never particularly liked mobile phones used for glow sticks, people wearing fluro at shows or even having fun whilst playing with one another. Their new sound marks a bolder, more mature return for F!SRF! Showcasing the vocals of chanteuse and relatively new member Caitlin Duff, 'Coward' displays the band as the sum of all its parts -- part post-millenial angst/ part teenage rebellion set to 'the war to end all wars'.
'TIL our lungs are out of breath.
Mad Shapes jump over logs on hot pink bikes to escape the authorities, they never get flat tyres, they have blonde perms, when they go to parties they ride, when they're chilling out they ride, they are pretty much Australia's greatest BMX riding indie band. They also write and perform the catchiest, most rockin' pop songs this side of the Atlantic. Their name derived from a quote by British comedy The Mighty Boosh, which literally means to pull crazy moves on the dance floor, clearly goes hand in hand with their focus on usurping the title of "world's greatest party band" from the legendary B-52's, one party at a time. This is important because Mad Shapes don't play gigs, they are the party.
THERE'S nowhere to hide.
Transmission is Adelaide’s original indie party and they are always out of control with raging party goers exploding on the dancefloor. This night will be no different with DJs Kane, Ross Ross Ross & Transmission DJs playing indie party tunes to raise the dead all night long.
BLOODthirsty wolves are at your door.
Madness happens from 10pm, Friday October 31 at Edinburgh Castle, Currie St Adelaide. $15 +bf presale @ moshtix, $20 on the door if you're lucky.
Tickets available at www.moshtix.com.au, 1300 GET TIX (438 849). Tickets are on Sale now. This will Sell Out so don't chance it.
TRANSMISSION LIVE! Volume 1
Transmission where the parties began is still on monthly at the Bull & Bear 89 King William Street.
