HATHI

an altogether different proposition!

About Me

HATHI is an off-shoot from vocalist Diane Jardine of rock band SOZE.
Essentially HATHI has been on the go for a while now originating out of CAROUSEL (see note) when it had run its course. An album's worth of material called 'Lightly Dark' was recorded in 2002/2003 with the rule no guitars allowed to start the HATHI sound. Whilst delighted with the results Diane rested HATHI to start playing live with a band again. Enter SOZE.
Diane loves being a rock chick, however, her love of electronica refuses to lay low and later on she resurrected HATHI. After a disastrous drive frying moment 18 months ago when an album's worth of new HATHI tunes was completely lost (let that be a lesson about backing up), everything was put on the back burner until A: HATHI recovered from the loss and B: a new studio was set up at home.
That's you up-to-date folks and now you can watch as HATHI is re-born, with guitars allowed now! Hopefully some new, improved songs will gradually appear and HATHI will bloom again.
Meanwhile please listen and enjoy (hopefully) the fruits of past labours that deserve to be heard and not forgotten about.
NB CAROUSEL: was Diane Jardine and Alan Reilly (now of LOGAN). The album "An Adventure of Epic Proportions" was released in 2001. All programming by Alan and the lyrics and singing was by Diane.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: HATHI is Diane Jardine and anyone else who feels like contributing
Influences: Oh man....here we go. To be honest I've never really been sure who or what my influences musically are. I've spent my whole life listening to all kinds of music so I assume all of it has had influence in some way....so here's a rather extensive list of those I think have had a positive effect (in no particular order except Duran Duran who always come first).

Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Goldfrapp, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Talk Talk, Emiliana Torrini, Frou Frou, Murcof, Eurythmics, Marcella Detroit, Blur, Garbage, KT Tunstall, Tom Paxton, Portishead, Lemonjelly, John Denver, Abba, The Feeling, Alison Moyet, Eddi Reader, Boards of Canada, Frau Muller, Tears For Fears, Krom, Sneaker Pimps, Five Guys Named Moe, Ella Fitzgerald, Madonna (ONLY Ray of Light period), William Orbit, Mama's and the Papa's, King Crimson, Massive Attack, Led Zeppelin, Harry Nilsson, Neil Diamond, Blondie, David Sylvian, The Pretenders, Mouse on Mars, Combustible Edison, Moloko, Throwing Muses, Alanis Morrissete, Ulrich Schnauss, Dave Stewart & The Spiritual Cowboys, Mathew Herbert, Bjork, Kate Bush, Tracy Chapman, Muse, Annie Lennox and finally (well for now until I realise I missed another one) the much missed and entirely brilliant Kirsty MacColl.

credit where credit’s due

Welcome to Hathi's first blog. All I want to say at present is that whilst the name is Hathi, the songs by Carousel here are all co-written with Alan Reilly (or The Shred as he known to Logan fans). ...
