At just a little above the age of five Christopher Curren received his first and only acoustic guitar lessons that were given to him by his father. However, at that age he wasn’t interested in being dedicated enough to learn an instrument, so nothing became of it at that time. Not even ten years later he was overpowered by the urge to learn to play a heavily distorted electric guitar (a true delight for the old folks at home). The following two years or so he spent practicing with heavy riffs from some of his favorite bands until he became obsessed with making his own. Over the next few years he developed his own style by unintentionally fusing classical elements, tribal rhythms, mystical ambience and gothic overtones. A friend and fellow musician once described Chris’s sound as, “old school goth metal reinventedâ€. Somewhere early on in the middle of the electric guitar days, Christopher viewed a recording of the Seville Concert from the Royal Alcazar Palace, an instrumental performance by one of today’s reighning masters of classical guitar, John Williams. Christopher then adapted part of the classical strumming style that he witnessed by watching this performance, along with tidbits that he remembered his father demonstrating and threw those technique impressions into a nature oriented, mystically ambient, celestial acoustic, fantasy guitar sound. Now at thirty three years of age, Christopher would someday like to dabble into film and video game scoring, but for now plans in the very near future to make an entire CD of his acoustic music, and a CD containing fully orchestrated electric pieces as a separate project.
