About Me

Scott 76 is the latest recording project from singer-songwriter Scott Hylbert and marks his first solo effort.Recorded above his neighbor’s garage in Nashville throughout 2007, Scott 76 is a peppy record benefitting from the use of double tracked and stacked vocal harmonies, not unlike ubiquitous 1976 era radio giants America, Steve Miller and Joe Walsh. Stylistically, this sound is a natural evolution for Hylbert: from the early ‘70s California country rock of Hylbert’s earlier band Buckeye (which he fronted in San Francisco in the late ‘90s yielding two well-received records), to the Stonesy-Faces swagger rock of Ik Ben (“I am” in Dutch). With brother Brian, Ik Ben released 2 EPs in 2006 and plans a third to drop later in 2008.Scott 76 will be released at an “in the round” performance at the Bluebird Cafe on July 3rd, followed by a full band show at the Basement August 26th...

Band Members: The Scott 76 EP features: Scott Hylbert along with Josh Tyler, Kris Woolsey, Shawn Byrne, Dave Ray, Brian Hylbert and Charlie Degenhart.
Influences: The Scott 76 songs were recorded during 2007 in Nashville across the street from Scott's house above Josh's garage. Thanks to Josh for producing the project. Kris loaned some guitars, riffs and laughs. Shawn some fancy fingerwork, Dave some steady pounding (and tapping). Songs were written by Scott, arranged with the help of Producer Josh, mixed by Josh and mastered by Kris. Basses were generally played by Scott but occasionally replaced by Josh. Guitars were often Scott, occasionally Kris, here and there Shawn, possibly Brian. Vocals were all Scott, with a splash of Josh and Kris and a rumour of Charlie. Strings, keyboards and programming were all Josh.
Sounds Like: At some point the year 1976 became a reference point. Perhaps out of irony? Or not...what I remember from '76 was my sister's KISS' "Rock and Roll Over" record. Pablo Cruise had a hit on the radio, along with Steve Miller, Joe Walsh, and lots of breeze rock. The North American Soccer League was steaming along. I attended San Diego Jaws soccer camp and skinned my knee on the diving board. Crazy swingers parties were happening in the suburbs, including ours! I was scared of public places; fairs, amusement parks, airports. And I didn't realize that Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld were both in the Ford administration. "Scott 76" takes some of these things into consideration. I hope you enjoy my record. -Scott, Dutch Antilles June 2008.
