Another Bleeding-Heart Hippy Liberal

About Me

I'm a 28 year old student, chronic over-achiever, liberal activist, major-depressive, vegetarian, clergymember, and parent. I'm also an Eastsider who has recently been displaced in West Bend because I got a job as an apartment manager. Still, you'll regularly find me hanging out at places like Fuel Cafe, Rochambo, Beans 'n Barley, Peace Action Wisconsin, and just strolling down Brady Street. I'm also at the University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee, double majoring in Political Science and Communication and working on a Peace Studies Certificate. Come fall 2008...onto the Masters program!!!
I am the Milwaukee Coordinator for Pagan Pride Day. It is an annual festival we have every autumn to celebrate Pagan religions, to promote community as well as tolerance within community, and to celebrate the harvest. We also regularly run food/blood drives and do other types of charitable work. If you'd like to get involved, let me know.
I'm also the parent of a 4 year old boy named Jaden. He's already way more brilliant than most people I know. He can be bitingly sarcastic, but still sweet and lovable. He works so hard on his art that he's been known to pass out at night with his pencil in hand.

I'd like to meet:

I'm looking to meet like minded individuals...liberals, Pagans, parents...cool people who want to hang out. Now that I'm living in West Bend, I feel very isolated at times, and would like to find a community here. I'd also like to meet someone special.

..TR

..TR FACT: You embody the German principle of Konstantzusammenschaft, which is best described in English (without using the obscure English word "sammenschaft") as "eternal togethermanship". ..TABLE The Loverboy
Random Gentle Love Master ( RGLMm )

Well-liked. Well-established. You are The Loverboy. Loverboys thrive in committed, steady relationships--as opposed to, say, Playboys, who want sex without too much attachment.

You've had many relationships and nearly all of them have been successful. You're a nice guy, you know the ropes, and even if you can be a little hasty with decisions, most girls think of you as a total catch. Your hastiness comes off as spontaneity most of the time anyhow, making you especially popular in your circle of friends, too.

.. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- begin exact opposite table -- ..TR height=20 Your exact opposite:
The Billy Goat

Deliberate Brutal Sex Dreamer
..TABLE .. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- end exact opposite table -- You know not to make the typical Loverboy mistake of choosing someone who appreciates your good humor and popularity, but who offers nothing in return. You belong with someone outgoing, independent, and creative. Otherwise, you'll get bored. And then instead of surprising her with flowers or a practical joke, you'll surprise her by leaving.

ALWAYS AVOID : The Nymph

CONSIDER : The Window Shopper, The Peach ..TABLE

My score on The 4-Variable Environmentalist Test :

Hard-Core
(77% Radicalism, 51% Personal Attachment78% Pragmatic Concerns, 80% Idealistic Concerns)

You're Hard-Core! [Radical Attached Pragmatic Idealist] Alright, now before you get annoyed by that category title, know that you almost got called the Classic Environmentalist. You have very strong opinions about the environment, and if someone doesn't hate the environment, you probably fit their image of an environmentalist. You recognize a wide variety of environmental problems, and there are even a few conservatives in this group (the real naturalists). Of course, this category also includes a lot of extreme socialists (the more scientific hippies). If you can get a conversation going with a non-environmentalist, you have a really good chance of convincing them to be a bit more concerned. You were more Radical than Calm, meaning you have pretty strong opinions on the matter. You were more Attached than Detached, meaning you likely feel that resolutions of issues impact you directly. You were more Pragmatic than Skeptical, meaning you feel that science-based environmental issues are important. You were more Idealist than Realist, meaning you feel that environmental issues for their own sake are important. You are likely to get along just fine with Environmental Lawyers, and you will find that teaming up with a Green Politician is a great idea. Most of the environmentalists, including even the Tree Hugger, are just fine, and you may even have been called that once. Your exact opposite, the Small Business Owner, doesn't bother you too much, since you see him as someone to convince. However, stay far, far away from the Whale Hater, who will cynically throw away recyclables in front of you, then watch you dig through the trash to save the planet. Join the Sierra Club.

Heroes:

I'm a politcal science major, with a law-studies degree. Not the slimy lawyer kind of degree, but the constitutional law, standing up for the first amendment and equal rights type lawyer. (Which probably means if I become a lawyer, I'll still be poor) Anyhow, the following are members of the Supreme Court that I admire for their courage, and their standing. I have issues with some of their beliefs, but some of these justices lived in a time very different from ours.
Harry Blackmun--Penned the opinion of Roe v. Wade, became a champion of women's rights as well as well as his opposition of the death penalty. He's also a member of the ..3 club....if you know this reference....you need to e-mail me. I will like you.
Chief Justice John Marshall--Although he was the 4th Chief Justice, he was the one who brought prestige to the Court, and helped it find it's voice. His brilliant opinions carefully balanced the needs of the young nation with the demands of the U.S. Constitution. He was a very plain and simple man with a brilliant mind and a great heart.
Thurgood Marshall--First Black American on the Supreme Court. A brilliant lawyer and legal mind, chief council for the NAACP, and sucessfully argued Brown v. Board of Education
Earl Warren--Mr. Chief Justice Warren presided over the Court during a turbulant time, expanding civil rights, the rights of the incarcerated and accused, school desegregation, the rights of mexican's to serve on juries, and so much more.
William O. Douglas--Strong champion of first amendment rights, as well as the right to privacy.
Felix Frankfurter--One of the founders of the American Civil Liberties Union, and a desegregationist.
Oliver Wendell Holmes--Brilliant dissent in Schenck v. U.S. on the marketplace of ideas being the only way to have a truely free society, arguing against government censorship of free speech.
John Marshall Harlan--Sole Dissenter in Plessey v. Ferguson, which upheld Southern Segregation, and was the first Justice to argue for incorporation of the 14th amendment to apply to states.
