Like Madonna, Hollywood is all about reinvention. The colossal King King gives itself a Kong-size makeover every single night.Not even the bar's nailed down at this sultry, sensual club. Salsa lovers looking to spice up their Tuesdays practice their moves with an instructor before Sono-Lux, the Latin-fusion house band, heats things up with hip-shaking rhythms. Most Thursdays, audience members nestled into cozy red couches whisper "ooh la la" during cabaret shows like "Leffleur des Sens," a kinky French cabaret created by Parisian native Cati Jean. On Saturdays, DJ Kemal and his cohorts from Balance spin deep house music for the post-glowstick crowd until 4am. And in what seems to be turning into an annual tradition, Southern sluts and leather-clad rebels raise hell throughout the theater in "Taking the Jesus Pill," a sacrilegious gothic-rock opera featuring both blues and burlesque. Don't be fooled by the rear entrance and dim lighting; King King's friendly and accommodating staff made us forget we were in Hollywood. —Jon Sattler
