About Me

Being Irish I tend mostly to live in Ireland - not the Heard & McDonald Islands (wherever the hell they are). I'm a librarian but don't hold it against me. Please. I like to think that I'm about as un-librarian as you can get. At school I was banned from the library for misbehaving and trying to steal a book about THE JAM (I eventually did steal it and several other music books). I've calmed down a little since then but not much. I generally try to do as little work as possible and tend to spend most of my working day surfing the net, talking to customers, reading the newspapers and more or less just arsing about. Still, it's better than having to work for a living. And NO I DON'T SMOKE!! (gave up several years ago)

My Interests

Playing with my children, Music, sex, drinking, mountain climbing/hill walking, running (a bit), keeping fit, letting it all hang out, reading, watching crap TV, staying alive and above the breadline.

I'd like to meet:

Everybody in the world at least once - apart from a few very awkward library cutomers that I hate the sight of .....Oh, and the bastard/bitch who stole my bodhran stick (a bodhran is an Irish drum thingy for those of you unfamiliar with the term).

Music:

All time favourite band since I was 10 years old is THE WHO. Keith Moon was and always will be my all time musical hero. The best drummer in the world ever. Who else? Tindersticks, Komeda, Johnny Cash, Portishead, Led Zep, Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Polar Bear, lots of 60s and 70s rubbish, bits of classical, some traditional Irish music (not the diddley dee tourist stuff), Calexico, Love, Talking Heads, Morphine, Blur, Pete Tong, House music, blues, Richard Hawley, Jawbone, Basement Jaxx, John Barry, Henry Mancini, Burt Bacharach, Stereolab, AC/DC, Deep Purple, Alabama 3, Paul Armfield & the Four Good Reasons, The Kinks, Underworld, Orbital, The Orb, Kings of Convenience, A Girl Called Eddy, Elbow, Julian Cope, Magic Numbers, Superfurryanimals, The Prodigy, Gorillaz, Jeff Buckley, EBTG, Ian Brown, Smiths, Stone Roses, Groove Armada, Fatboy Slim, The Byrds, CSN&Y, Aphex Twin, Hank Williams, Engelbert Humperdinck!, 80's Ska, Britpop, 60's easy listening, film soundtracks, JULIAN COPE, Jim Noir, William Orbit, The Dubliners, Planxty,Gotan Project, Pepe Deluxe,Lemon Jelly, Nick Drake,Teenage Fanclub, Amy Winehouse (some), the Cinematic Orchestra, Julie Fowlis, Zoe Conway, BC Camplight, Fairport Convention, Rodrigo Y Gabriella, Simple Kid, Madness, The Specials, Stranglers, White Stripes,Grinderman, I Fucking hate U2 and Green Day (and all those other EMO type bands). To be continued....

Movies:

Withnail & I, Koyaanasqatsi, Laurel & Hardy, Cinema Paradiso, Aguirre:Wrath of God, Italian Job (original not the shitty remake), Get Carter (original not Stallone travesty), Casino Royale (orginal), any Peter Sellers, Ealing comedies, Goodfellas, Jean de Florette/Manon des Source, lots of European art house stuff & World Cinema. I also love animated stuff by the likes of Nick Park (Wallace & Gromit) and Michael Dudok de Wit (The Monk & the Fish/Father & Daughter - brilliant)

Television:

Sopranos, THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN, Little Britain, 60s/70s/80s British comedy, Ray Mears Bushcraft Survival, the news, Match of the Day, Trumpton/Camberwick Green/Chigley, any Oliver Postgate/Peter Firmin productions,The Mighty Boosh, Morse, Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett),Peter Kay, Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Green Wing, The Two Ronnies etc I'm also a big fan of British radio comedy - especially the 50s & 60s stuff like Hancock's Half Hour and Round the Horne. I also love BBC Radio 4's I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue and I like to listen to the Archers (bbc radio 4 rural soap opera).

Books:

Too many to mention. Just finished 'The Stolen Child' by Keith Donohue - brilliant stuff. Currently reading 'Pies & Prejudice' by Stuart Maconie, Michael Palin's diaries 1969-79 and about to start 'That's Me in the Corner' by Andrew Collins. I also enjoyed 'The Shadow of the Wind' by Carlos Ruiz Zafon and 'I'm Not Scared' by Nicolo Ammaniti. Anyway I am surrounded by the bloody things at work all day every day so it gets a bit blurred after a while!

Heroes:

Keith Moon. Ray Mears. Mark Radcliffe. John Peel. Count Arthur Strong. Terry Thomas. Oliver Postgate & Peter Firmin. Chris Bonnington and the like. Can't think of anyone else at the moment.

L'eau Water

Yesterday evening I got soaked to the skin as I went for fish and chips (fries) for my tea. After weeks of hearing how low the country's water supply is getting I was prepared to put up with this...
