About Me

Pope Joan are from Brighton and write noisy pop songs.
Blasts of spiky post-punk funk, ambient walls of processed guitar noise and cheeky 8-bit synth lines are all underpinned by a mega keen pop sensibility.
Live, expect a lot of energy and everything to be played slightly faster.
Pope Joan have recently played some great gigs with the likes of Help She Can't Swim; The Hoosiers; Ghosts; Reuben plus not forgetting recently opening for legends The Fall at both their sold out Brighton shows.
The band have been busy making rough and ready home demos and have just spent a hectic day in the studio recording two new songs. Their track Our Cuisine got selected for the Shifty Disco singles download club plus the band have been asked to put forward a song for the next O.I.B. Records split 7”.
Exciting!
You can download the Pope Joan spiky jaunt “Our Cuisine” from the Shifty Disco Singles Club website, and what’s more you get the fantastic My Device track “Slamming Doors” too! Bargin. Do it Now! Click on the link below.

Sounds Like: a big shiny noise-pop racket.

"Brimming with charm, these Brighton dandies were born to be in a band and must surely soon step out and embrace the rest of the world and be embraced back."
Milk @ Please Make Sense.
"they have a very catchy and unique style which is pretty hard to come by these days."
Angus Kerr @ Brighton Life
"playing this and loving it!"
Marcus O' Dair @ Totally Wired/Juice FM
"... they add a certain charm and unique approach to processed-guitar-noise all of their own... Why this band aren't already massive I have no idea, Not every guitar-wielding youth can get away with a neckerchief and a post-punk afro. Sensational."
Rollo Kim @ Brighton Gig Scene
"Tracks like 'it's the same as when you asked me the last time' have the subtlety of a distress flare combined with the vibrancy of a rainbow.
Unearthed Treasures
“Indubitably one of the best bands in Brighton, their searing live performances are a spectacle to behold.”
My Device
"Brighton boys Pope Joan are a fantastic and quirky proposition indeed."
