About Me

PLEASE CHECK OUT MY ZEN-JAZZ MYSTERY SERIES!
I write crime novels about Lars Lindstrom, a musician force to become an amature detective. The series, set in San Pedro, CA, includes "The No News is Bad News Blues" and "The Long Gone, Horn Gone Blues."

Available from amazon.com & barnesandnoble.com

Beyond my writing, jazz music is my life!

Like, the acoustic variety 40's through 60's and ALL the jazz that comes out of Scandinavia. Lars Gullin is my ..1 Idol! Dig Dexter Gordon, Bill Evans, Roland Kirk, Chet & Miles, Art Farmer, Art Pepper Monk etc. Love those little girl voices like Blossom Dearie, Lisa Ekdahl and Silje Nygard. Also totally nutty about Wagner's operas! And nobody interprets Wagner like Van Karajan! (SEE MY WEBSITE - www.skootsjazz.com)I Love to read - mystery, fiction, Sci-Fi & music history - I'm an old kat, stuck in Beat times, either a conservative liberal or a liberal conservative, not sure which - from hearty Viking stock. Vegitarian, but do dig fish. I practically live on fish & cheese. I play bariSax & flutes. Just finished my Masters (Jazz History & Jazz in Scandinavia). Also, my Zen-Jazz novel, "The No News is Bad News Blues" came out in February (2007) and is available at Barnesand Noble.com, Amazon.com & Ejazzlines.com. The sequel, "The Real Gone, Horn Gone Blues" followed in January 2008, and is available from the same above-listed sources

I want to meet someone who can think! Touchy, feely, warm & loving. I'm comfortable in front of a crowd, but don't feel good in a crowd. Prefer intimate, at home setting or jazz club. I enjoy cooking, occasionally paint and often write (music reviews, fiction & poetry). I live with two very demanding cats, like feline variety, Artie Wu (Siamese calico mix w/pale blue eyes and a talkative streak) and Slide Hyde ( A tortoise-shell short-hair

My Interests

Jazz Music! reading, hanging IN with my cats (feline variety), digging art, like sculpture, painting and "objects." I dig live music, good clean stand-up (sorry, I'm not impressed by comedians that feel four letter word are good for a laugh) I want some substance in my humor, irony, puns, slapstick or just a good funny story about human foibles. I'm not, like, a total introvert, but I do require quiet time and space to myself, like meditative space. I have NO, zero, zilch interest in organized sports. I don't watch football matches, European or American, I don't care for contests of strength or speed, and the last and only baseball game I ever sat through the Brooklyn Trolley-Dodgers were still playing in Newark, New Jersey! The Old Norse Pagan side of me is very into nature. I love hiking around misty mountains or walking and swimming around the sea. If there is such a concept as God, I think we'll find it equally divided among the sparks of life in every living thing.

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to meet someone that feels as I do about music, especially jazz. I would prefer someone who takes care of themselves, stays fit and attractive (How do we define that? its so subjective and differs person to person!), thinks for themself and has an open mind. I have personal problems with religious dogma and the people that feel they have to sell their own beliefs to others. I enjoy people who exercise control of themselves - have trouble accepting smokers, addicts and grossly over-weights. Definately want to meet ladies who THINK and can carry on a meaningful conversation! Ideally, I'd like someone who can stimulate my thinking with their own thoughs into endless meaningful dialogs. I am a very tactile person and enjoy touching and being touched - into hugs, long embraces and kisses, full body massages (giving and receiving).

Music:

Jazz, Jazz, Jazz! I do dig classical and German opera. I'm amused by Punk Country, like Geezinslaws, Austin Lounge Lizards and Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jew Boys. I also enjoy Country Western Swing; old Bob Wills, Asleep at the Wheel etc. Do NOT enjoy Nashville Rock & Roll or for that matter much of ANY rock & roll. I dig the old hillbilly rockers like Little Richard, Eddy Cochran & P J Proby. Mostly its jazz - Chet, Miles, Monk, Coltrane, Art Pepper, Art Farmer, Art Blakey, Long Tall Dexter, Wardell Gray, Roland Kirk, Mark Murphy, Ã…ke Persson, Lars Gullin, Sahin Shihab, Leo Parker and, of course, Bird & Prez!

Movies:

My taste in film is off-beat - dig all the old Carry-On series, Woody Allen stuff, French comedy like Le Grand Boeff, Pardon Mon Affaire, Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe and My New Partner. All time favorite for deep thought is ZardOz with Sean Connery and Charlotte Ramping. Speaking of Charlotte Ramping, l Also dug The Night Porter, very dark film! Enjoy black humor like The Loved One, Putney Swope & Viva Max. Don't find very many good films coming out anymore. I won't sit through bad plots or LOUD raucus soundtracks. Not amused by fast action, car chases and stunts. I perfer substance, heady dialog or good old fashioned laughs.

Television:

Don't have a TV connection! I have a monitor to watch PAL (Euro) DVD's & videos. Programs I like: ..Allo ..Allo, Red Dwarf, Father Ted, Fawlty Towers, The Piglet Files, ..Til Death Do Us Part. American shows I enjoyed include: Sledge Hammer, The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis and Hogan's Heros.

Books:

I love a good mystery or police proceedural. Especially one with a touch of black humor, like Carl Haaison's Skin Deep, Tourist Season or Lucky You. I've read bios of most jazz musicians, loved The DiVinci Code, the dark and deep humor of Elmore Leonard and the noire feeling of Loren Estleman. I also dig SciFi that looks at human and social problems. Heinlen's Stranger in a Strange Land, the Dune series & Josè Phillip Farmer. I've always got a book going, so I read quite a lot. Enjoy humorous fiction like Thomas Berger as well.

Heroes:

Cats who've influenced me include: Charlie Parker, Lars Gullin, Art Pepper, Chet Baker, Jack Kerouac, Neil Cassidy, Ken Kesey, Ross MacDonald, John D. McDonald, Alan Watts, D. T. Suzuki, Lenny Bruce, Salvidor Dali, Timothy Leary, Ram Dass, Jan Willem van der Wetering, Maj Sjöwall & Per Wahlöö, Slim Gaillard, Jimmy Carter and John Kennedy.
