Liones

Alana Smith AKA Liones is a dynamic hip hop vocalist, performer and teacher. The release of her debut album in 2003 through Mother Tongues and Goldtooth Records has seen a new and innovative style of Australian hip hop reach the airwaves. The Liones collective incorporates the talents of DJ Bacon and the production and engineering genius of The Mobius Cube. Liones is able to capture the nature and intensity of her thoughts, emotions and beliefs through words, flows, rhythms and music that is thought provoking and at times haunting. Her style and ability is vast and diverse, she can bless down tempo sleepy beats with introspective ideas or rock the party with straight up hip hop. She began performing in Brisbane in 1995. Since then, countless performances and a relentless rehearsal schedule has seen her evolve into one of Australias premier MCs. Winner of 2002s Down and Out Queensland Freestyle open mic championships, Liones is also able to shift quickly and easily into a freestyle flow which enthralls audiences of many musical tastes.In 1999 Liones co-founded Brisbanes only independent hip hop youth arts and events management company, Channel Direct. Through Channel Direct Liones has worked extensively in communities across Australia providing young people with access to positive hip hop culture through workshops, festivals, competitions and events. Her work as a teacher has enabled her to hone her own skills into that of a true master of the craft.For the past 18 months Liones has been based in Melbourne. Since in Melbourne she has been performing and recording regularly with DJ Bacon, Ladies Luv Hip Hop and JQL.
