I've been influenced as a DJ by listening to early hip hop records and admiring scratch DJ pioneers who started tearing it up in the 80's like Jam Master Jay, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DST, Jazzy Jay and Bam, Grandmaster Flash, DJ Too Tuff, Mr Mixx and countless others. Growing up in Brisbane It was hard to source a lot of the early dope US hip hop, however local radio show 4zzz (Phat Tape w DJ Katch) proved to be a source of ever inspiring hip hop jams. Another local - DJ Cybex used to give me amazing hip hop and electro mixtapes too. Other Brisy DJ's such as The Master, Bribe, Sumkant and crews like B Boy Allstars, Rapid Fire and Gravity Warriors were world class and really pioneered the Brisbane hip hop scene.
I have been DJing since 1995, and collecting records since 1987. I began releasing dope underground hip hop mixtapes through the late 90's. If you missed "This Year Suckers Are Goin' Nowhere!!" - Where u been?? It's available at all good independent hip hop stores around Oz. You can message me for a copy too. Several DJ Bacon mixes have been played on JJJ's National Hip Hop Show, particularly the smoked bacon instrumental mix .
I also produce music in Briztronix - A Jazzy, hip hop, futuristic, Turntablist, Big Beat, Electro project with long time friend and producer Shazam. Since moving to Melbourne in 2004 I've been playing regularly at many dope jams around this awesome town. I've had a residency for the past 2 years hosting a Saturday hip hop night at the Workshop with house rocker Danny Cool called "Extravaganza" - One of the few real hip hop nights left. Ive been playing weekly at many of Melbourne's finest venues since arriving here.
You may have seen DJ Bacon and Liones hosting and featuring in the fresh new Melbourne hip hop show Heavyweight TV, Australias answer to Graffiti Rock. Look out for Heavyweight 2008 with Bacon djing the bboy comps. You can catch Liones and DJ Bacon rocking shows with MC Que all around the place. I have taught Djing and performed throughout the country for many community organisations, especially throughout regional Queensland and Victoria, continuing community work teaching Djing and performing at gigs and events in Melbourne as a freelance artist. DJ performances, battles, workshops and releases have been many since the late 90's. Gigs around the country and overseas include representing QLD in the Aust DMC comp in 2001.
