.The Hours We Kept: Holly explains another song to keep you up very, very late at nightI was driving up to Scarborough from London. It was night time. I often drive at night because the roads are empty and also as I figure I'd only be sat at home on myspace or something otherwise, being something of a natural night-owl.I go over the wolds which is high ground, winding small roads, spooky road-side hedges and fields of nothing that go on and on forever. There's this place right at the top of this really steep hill, where you can see Scarborough off in the distance at the bottom and you sort of descend onto it.It was 3am at the top of this hill and I stopped the car but left the ignition on and the music playing. I had a tape of the John Lennon 'Imagine' album on and turned it up super-loud, opened the door and climbed onto the bonnet of my car.I laid there looking up at the sky which was completley cloudless and packed to its limits with stars. I laid there with 'Don't Wanna Be A Soldier' blasting out. The slapback on Lennon's voice felt like it was the echo bouncing back from the stars.It was the sort of moment you should smoke a cigarette in, even if you don't smoke.
