The Merchants are a five piece rock ‘n’ roll band from the Southside of Glasgow, formed in 2004. The line up has changed considerably since the start with only one of the original band members remaining our singer, Paul Bryne. Since 2005 there has been 3 mainstays in the band, Drummer, Scott Perry, Lead Guitarist, Anton McCann and Bass Player, Mark Cloucherty. Rhythm Guitarists Charlie Ward and Kieron Barnes have come and gone. Steven Graham now plays in their place.Since 2006 the Mighty Merchants have went from strength to strength with our punk and mod influence rock ‘n’ roll, playing everywhere in Glasgow from King Tuts, Box, Capitol, Nice ‘n’ Sleazy, The 13th Note, Barrowlands 2, ABC 2, The Arches and twice playing the Carling Academy in 2008 at The Next Big Thing gigs. Outside of Glasgow The Merchants have played Wistle Binkies in Edinburgh, supported The Fall at the Galtimore Club in Cricklewood, London (and Renfrew Ferry, Glasgow), and possibly our finest achievement, a slot at the 2008 Wickerman Festival.As far as influences go, collectively as a band, we can say The Clash, The Jam, The Who, The Smiths, The Buzzcocks and Oasis help shape our sound.Hopefully a record deal isn’t too far away, we’ve got the tunes and a following to back it up, The Merchants, are the only proper Rock ‘n’ Roll band in a city with a great music scene, but without great bands.
