Ottawa based band “The Meathookers†hasn’t existed for long, but it has been stewing in the minds of the members for years. It had started when the band “Crankenstein†established itself in the Ottawa punk scene in 1999. Young and inexperienced the three core members pulled together a myriad of dirty, blitz speed horror anthems. They grew bored of the constant line up changes, as well as one of the main songwriters living a couple of hundred miles away in Montreal. The two founding brothers, Scotty Beerwolf and Seanzi felt it was time to move on and progress. They were tired of playing to grind core crowds who thought they weren’t hard enough, and new school skate punk crowds that thought they were too crazy and obnoxious. Most of all, they were tired of the simplicity of what they were playing.
They had established a name in the surrounding mid east Canadian area, by playing with acts such as "D.O.A", "The Casualties", and Montreal acquaintances, "The Gutter Demons". The brothers, having always loved Country, Garage and Psychobilly, felt they needed a challenge in music. They had always wanted to play garage, country, and psychobilly, and finally had the chance to. Beerwolf and Seanzi went on to a brief stint in a band called “Ride Johnny Rideâ€. But, due to the typical band problems-girls, other, bands, and assholes- the band dispersed. Beerwolf and Seanzi met up with high school friends Atom and Smokey. They briefly had an additional guitarist named Max, but he didn’t gel with the band musically or personally, so Max was ousted. They felt that the sound, and sensibility of four was cleaner and simpler than five. In a very short period of time, they managed to pull together a short demo, and look forward to touring .
Scotty Beerwolf: His singing style has changed from a rough maniacal bark accompanied with ear shattering wails and screams, into a hybrid of that and an eloquent, cocky croon that fits his strong stage presence with spades.
Smokey: This bastard rodent's talent and dedication to the music are only outweighed by the fact that he was circumcised when he was ten. Wether playing on stage or gnawing a hole in your neck, he makes sure he does it with finnesse and cigarettes.
Atom: With no prior experience in playing music, this crazy bastard managed to almost nail down the stand up bass in a matter of months. His motivation for better local music and his love for Rockabilly, Psychobilly and Garage is probably some of what fueled his quick learning skills.
Seanzi: Younger brother of Beerwolf and drummer, this miscreant learnt the drums on the fly when they founded "Crankenstein". Magically, he got pretty good. Having to change his speed and style - from blitz speed rock, to shuffles and partupples - has created a style only described as dirty, erratic and busy.
Thank You Good Night!
