GUNSMOKE

We are a 4-piece rock n' roll band from Ottawa, Canada and have been actively playing since June 2006. We have a 5-song CD-EP out now which we recorded, mixed and released ourselves called "The Kitchen Sessions" and can be picked up at our shows or through our website, www.gunsmoke.ca.
Initially, Gunsmoke was created by Sam and Adam Freeborn. Twin brothers with a strong passion for music and the urge to write and perform. So in 2002, Sam bought a guitar, Adam bought his upright bass and the writing (and learning!) began.
In 2003, Adam and some good friends started Ottawa's first psychobilly band called The Meathookers, which can be heard on Zombie Night in Canada Vol.2. They disbanded a year later when the lead singer moved off to California.
The brothers then started practicing their own material without drums or vocals, and the search for band members was underway.
Ben Hurlow was a mutual friend of the brothers and had been a veteren guitarist within the music scene. With past experience in bands, The Forturnate Sons, Crankenstein and Hobo, combined with his love for surf, rockabilly, psychobilly and country music gave him a unique style unlike any other guitarist in the city. Adam told Ben about Gunsmoke, and he didn't hesitate to jump on board and start writing.
A drummer was next on the list, and Chris Smith, long time drummer for local punk rock n' rollers The Sweet Janes was the man. A friend and fellow fan of rockabilly and country made him an easy choice.
The band all the while continued writing songs and lyrics as they searched for someone to sing em! A few failed try-outs and months of practicing without vocals was frustrating the members and halted the bands progress. Sam, without any prior band experience decided to take the helm and grab the mic. His natural singin' voice (havent we heard enough Danzig and Elvis try hards?) worked with the sound of the band and it was finally complete.
Our writing styles range everywhere from 50's rock n' roll, neo-rockabilly, country/western, punk rock, psychobilly and anything else we have fun playing. And our mission is exactly that. Come to our shows, have fun and dance around...elitist squares can stay home.
