About Me

I have zipped on my Buck Rodgers suit and hesitantly stepped into the 21st century. It would seem one can't actually meet or communicate with people in the physical world any longer so I figured I would give this virtual world a whirl and see how she flies. About me... Hmmmm...I hang my hat in Austin TX. I have passion for creating with my hands. Working on my home business, Twilight Faerie, is what I fill most of my time with. I have opened an E-Bay store and can be found at http://stores.ebay.com/Twilight-Faerie-Store. I also have Faeries by Michelle D. featured at a gallery store in New Orleans. In the fall I hope to vend at the local artist market here in Austin and am constantly looking for new venues for my wares. Any thing one sees on my profile pictures is available for purchase (except the pets and Darth Mal). I have a peculiar love of Halloween. I am a constant gardener (yeah, stole that from a movie title.) I have a love of fireworks, fireflies and dinner parties. I enjoy conversation, creativity, art, a love for good coffee, chocolate and fine red wine and most of all cheese. (I suppose it is a sensory thing). I have a bizarre fascination with pretty paper goods although I am very much a tree-hugger and have a profound love of animals. I am an optimist and still believe in respect, integrity, noble acts and sincerity backed by actions
Capricious Faeries:
Each 5-inch porcelain faerie is hand poured and hand painted by a Master doll maker living in the Austin area specifically for Twilight Faerie. Each faerie has her own unique facial features and expressions. All faeries have detailed blushes and skin shadowing and have painted finger and toenails. The faeries arrive to me bald and unclothed. I dress the faeries with hand crafted wigs, clothes, wings, and glitter detail that fit her personality. Then set her out into the world. No two faeries are identical. With the exception of the porcelain doll, Twilight Faerie designs all components of the faeries. Materials used for the faeries are porcelain, synthetic hair, fabrics, silk flowers, lace, fabric trims, ultra fine glitter, and florist wire.
Nostalgic Paper Altered Art :
Paper Altered Art items offered by Twilight Faerie are fashioned with an intentional “hand-made” and crude style reminiscent of the nostalgic feel of objects discovered in ones attic or once remembered from childhood. Not all lines are precise and not every surface is smooth. These slight “imperfections” are unique to each piece and add to its unconventional charm. These nostalgic objects are made from reproductions of images from vintage postcards, advertisements, boxes anything that inspires a design, vintage style papers, layers and swirls of textured matt finish, ultra fine glitter, antique style tinsels and paper forms.
Wearable Wings:
Each set of wings is unique in that I hand assemble each one individually creating variations in details and design. I never make a pair exactly like the pair prior. Wings are inspired by Nature or vintage Illustrations. All wings are completely handcrafted from the frame design to the glitter and floral work. The wings are made from a template that is of my and my assisting “wing-nuts” design using galvanized wire so the frame will never rust. They are then covered with fabric, which varies depending on the look of the wings I am creating. They are then glittered and decorated with feathers, marabou, flowers, and leaves or trims to complete the look. Wings are wearable or can be displayed when not in use. They are lightweight, and are supported by tying a ribbon harness to your size and comfort needs. The wings are durable enough for a day at the renaissance festival or Halloween dress up parties.
Costume Accessories:Twilight Faerie offers handcrafted floral head wreaths, hair accessories, wands and scepters, altered pouches that have been transformed into “Faerie Essentials”, and general sparkles and spangles. The components used for these varying objects are silk flowers, feathers (depending on the design), florist wire, barrette and comb bases, wooden rods (for wands and scepters), ribbons, sheer pouches and ultra fine glitter. Accessories are well suited for renaissance festivals and Halloween dress up parties.
Winsome art from the recycling bin:
During a period of time when I had no funds for supplies but was haunted by creative energy with no where to execute it, I was feeding my cat and realized she eats a lot of meals. Those meals produce a lot of cans, A LOT of cans. Those cans go into the trash. I thought what a waste. Hummm…I said to the cat. She raised an eyebrow. I cleaned the can up, sprayed it with bleach, ran it in the dishwasher, spray painted it and covered it with paper and podge and sprinkled it with glitter and viola…a charming little sit about or trinket holder. The soup and black bean cans were next! The cat smiled in approval. These nostalgic objects are made from reproductions of images from vintage postcards, advertisements, boxes anything that inspires a design, vintage style papers, layers and swirls of textured matt finish, ultra fine glitter, matt finish spray paints and oh yeah…tin cans.
Floral Décor:
Wreaths, swags and wall hangers Each unique decoration is handcrafted to emulate the natural surroundings of flora and branches where faeries thrive.
I try my hardest to never reproduce and item identical to another and hand select the highest quality silk flowers and materials available for each item created.
