The grandson of an Applachian coal miner, the 3rd great-grandson of a Confederate soldier, the 6th great-grandson of the Earl of Oxford, and a 7th generation Kentuckian, Lochlainn spent much of his childhood on ranches and farms in Wyoming and Utah, where country music was as much a part of everyday life as church, barbeques, rodeos, and mucking out horse stalls.
A child prodigy who began performing (classical piano pieces) on stage and songwriting at age five, today Lochlainn is known for his timeless lyrics, unforgettable melodies, and visually rich songs. To date he has written over 250 albums worth of music and has won some thirty awards for song writing and lyrical excellence. The veteran songwriter and his management team are headquartered in Nashville, where his publishers provide male and female artists, groups, TV, film, and licensing companies with tunes from Lochlainn's 3,000-song catalog.
A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, solo writer, and multi-genre writer who has co-written with dozens of other Nashville songwriters, Lochlainn writes mainly in the genres of country and vocal and instrumental bluegrass . But he also specializes in Celtic , Gospel , Christian contemporary , Southern Gospel , Western swing , rockabilly , retro , pop , jazz , ambient , and classical music.
Lochlainn's songs have been performed on stages - and licensed and aired on TV and radio stations - all over the world. Currently he has 27 single-song music publishing contracts and several indie cuts. Recently he's had songs on hold with Martina McBride, Bryan White, and Colte Bradley.
Lochlainn's cousin John Carter Cash (executive producer of the hit film "Walk the Line") recently hand-picked, produced, and recorded one of Lochlainn's songs for an artist he's pitching to labels. The CD includes tunes by John's father Johnny Cash, as well as Kris Kristofferson and Roger Miller.
As a singer-songwriter and live performer (lead vocal, keys, drums, rhythm guitar, mandolin, harmonica, percussion) Lochlainn has toured the U.S. many times and has opened for everyone from the Earl Scruggs Revue to Loggins and Messina. From Nashville to L.A., from Key West to Boston, Lochlainn has filled concert halls, stadiums, outdoor arenas, colleges, dinner theaters, county fairs, nightclubs, pubs, churches, and coffee houses with fans who travel from far and wide to hear him sing and play his original music. Before he turned to songwriting exclusively he performed privately for countless celebrities and politicians, including Burt Reynolds, President Ronald Reagan, Loni Anderson, and Senator Edward Brooke.
Lochlainn's musical background includes working as a piano accompanist for a Florida ballet company and performing his original classical music live with members of the West Palm Beach Symphony. Also a respected music producer who records, engineers, produces, and masters all of his own songs, in the studio he has worked with Stuart Duncan, Jeff Carson, Red Marlow, Luke Brown, Livingston Taylor, Jason Roller, David Wood, Maribeth Johnson, Vic Lawson, Travis Woodruff, Jesse Garrett, Jay Teter, Angela Hurt, Craig Morris, Layne Ihde, Emily Jacobs, Randy McCLellan, Scotty Sanders, Kevin Haynie, Molly Reed, as well as many others.
Lochlainn's songs and music videos have been licensed by companies as diverse as Panasonic, United Way, and Hilton Hotels, and his radio and TV themes have been aired both nationally and internationally. Also known around Nashville as a top session player, he has performed and been interviewed live on TV and radio, appeared in TV commercials, and has been the subject of numerous magazine and newspaper articles.
