My Interests

General Let's see....I like good movies, music, reading, playing pool, playing tennis (if I knew someone here who played, too), going to local punk shows, psychology, philsophy, ethics, eastern philosophy, some interests in the sciences like quantum physics, astronomy, astrophysics, spiritualities, and just stuff. Reading over that, it sounds completely boring. Damn it, I'm sure I'm anything but that. I guess those are just my "closet" interests. As long as I'm doing something fun, especially with fun people, I'm in seventh heaven! I don't take alot of things very seriously, or perhaps I should say that I take most things seriously, but approach them with a sense of humor and understanding of the ironies that life will undoubtedly throw in the way. I'm pretty mellow, but don't really take alot of guff from people. I'm laid back when I feel like it, at other times, I have an abundance of energy. I can talk about practically anything, and enjoy doing so. If I don't know what you're talking about, I'll most likely want to learn it. I'm tired of updating my profile :)

I'd like to meet:

My support goes to this man for the presidential primary (which guy in the clippings looks/looked like me?

Music:

(Some of these artists I'm really really into, and others I just love "some" of their songs, but they make my list because those songs are the shizzle dizzle razzle kizzle) Enya; Rancid; Ravi Shankar; Queen; Ozzy Osbourne; Acid Bath; Atreyu; Opeth; Simon and Garfunkel; Billy Joel; NOFX; Misfits; Lionel Richie; The Bangles; Cyndi Lauper; 80's music in general; punk covers of 80's song rule!; oldies; classical music, especially with harpsichords; celtic music; international music; Paul Oakenfold; decent trance music; Pie Tasters; Sepultura(not the new stuff); Soulfly; bad ass guitar solos; Clutch; Tom Waits; Norah Jones; Sneaker Pimps; Operation Ivy; Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards; Circle Jerks; maybe some old Michael Jackson; older Bon Jovi; other 80's metal bands...well some of em; Red Hot Chilli Peppers (not their radio stuff); Incubus (from the "Enjoy" and "Science" album); Black Sabbath; Mamas and the Papas; Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds; my bros and sister in the local music scene: Stations; StraitJaket; PissAnt; Angry Youth; Dead End Heist; Star City Wildcats; Doom Syndicate; Random Noise Generator;.....getting too impatient to finish this =)

Movies:

Again, anything good. I'm partial to movies that grab you by the boo boo at the end. A brief list of my favorites off the top of my head: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas; Fight Club; The Matrix movies; Kundun; The Little Buddha; The Usual Suspects; The Suicide Kings; True Romance; Four Rooms; Reservoir Dogs; The Last Samurai; Pulp Fiction; The Never Ending Story; The Lord of the Rings; Swingers; The Big Lebowski; Farrely Brothers movies; The Ring; The Princess Bride; American History X; Sixth Sense; Signs; Good Will Hunting; Bram Stokers Dracula; Virgin Suicides; Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon; John Wayne and Clint Eastwood westerns; The Fifth Element; The Deer Hunter; Edward Scissor Hands; The Goonies; Lost Boys; The Breakfast Club; The Sword in the Stone (childhood thing I guess); American Beauty; 12 Monkeys; Seven; Pink Floyd's "The Wall"; Clerks; Mallrats; Dogma; Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back; Desperado; From Dusk til Dawn; Natural Born Killers; good martial arts movies; Dark City; to be continued at a later time...

Television:

Television Blah!!! I just got digital cable, again, and only watch it when I'm falling asleep! Damn internet! Ok, well I used to LOVE watching t.v., but now commercials irratate the piss out of me to no end, so to ensure that I don't throw something through the t.v. set, I usually don't watch most Prime Time like stuff....it rots my brain anyway:) I usually can't stand being at home and bored but when I am, I usually end up watching something geeky like the Discovery Channels, Travel Channel, History Channel, or the Animal Planet. I really enjoy shows about nature or history, especially ancient history, and excluding 20th century stuff. If I do watch something prime time-ish, I like Frasier, Will and Grace, Seinfeld when it was still running new shows, Charmed, Nip Tuck (love that show), Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Brak Show, Man Show, South Park, anything witty, funny, or shocking

Books:

Books Usually when someone looks at my bookshelf, I hear..."Hmm, never heard of any of this". Well, that's probably true. Buying books is my worst impulse in shopping(sounding geeky again), but what's worse is that I rarely finish them. I either end up disliking them; realizing that the author is too repetitive or boring; unnecessarily overly intellectual in writing; get distracted in life; or try reading too many things at the same time and lose interest. The only fiction up there that I've read recently is: Siddhartha; The Celstine Prophecy; The Alchemist; The Way of the Peaceful Warrior; The Lord of the Rings. With the exception of the latter, they're all spiritual in context with the wrappings of a entertaining fictional story. The rest of my books, with the exception of a couple of faerie art books, are mainly some sort of books on Taosim, Buddhism, physics, philsophy, generic sprituality, logic, and sometimes a conglomeration of all of those. Thich Nhat Hanh is my favorite author--he writes with pure heart. I do like what little I've read of Douglas Adams though. I guess I figure if I'm going to spend the grueling hours of reading a book, it should leave me knowing something that I didn't know before, or something that my friends can't give me. Not that you can't learn from fiction, it's just different I guess. If I want sheer entertainment for it's own sake, I go out and try to enjoy life, Guinness, or Jagermeister with my friends--sometimes at the same time.

Heroes:

Heroes I've never really idolized people that much, but if I had to say who I'd rather model my life after as much as possible, I'd go with either Thich Nhat Hanh or the Dalai Lama. Why? They are both highly spiritual people who have been exhiled by the governments of their native countries. Having witnessed the death and destruction of their peoples' culture during the Vietnam War, and the invasion of Tibet through force by the Chinese, they still practice and preach a lifestyle of loving compassion for all living creatures, including and especially for those who have and do create suffering for others. Living a humble and simple life, both of these monks could easily use their revenues from books and such for living a hedonistic lifestyle, but instead live an extremely simple existence choosing to use their money for the sake of those in need elsewhere. I try to love all people, but they make it so hard...I have a long way to go, but would like to be there one day. Until then, I remain very human and very flawed
