Ideal vs. Reality = Life

About Me

"It is the single most important thing in life to understand the truth of what it is to be alive and searching for meaning as deeply as you can...." Here is the most important video you will ever see in your life. It sums up my perspective of humanity and the world...Hi! I'm Alex Greenman from Roanoke, Virginia. I grew up on Bent Mountain in Va and went to Cave Spring High, Virginia Western, and Radford University. I go to a lot of music shows and used to hang out downtown a lot at the Mill Mountain Coffe shop and places like the Iroquoi, Secret Garden, Melting Pot and a bunch of random people's houses. I know a lot of people around Roanoke. I like to get out and do fun stuff as much a s possible. I'm currently a 3rd grade teacher and I work at Papa John's delivering pizza on the weekends. I really like Scrabble, Space and Science, and figuring out cool shit all of the time. Every now and then I'll play some Magic the Gathering or play some D & D. I'm a big dork and I don't give a fuck. I love everybody and I'm a really kind hearted gullible asshole. I also really like learning about the rest of the world and travelling whenever I can get away to a cool place. I love going outside and exploring and basically trying to make the most of each day, although it 's hard when I work so much....I appreciate tiny beauties and wierd coincidences and I'm all about watching the clouds shift and make their crazy sky-art, or how a bunch of random things make patterns or pictures within themselves. I'm always finding different kinds of cool shit to seek out that some little subculture is doing that's different than everything else. I enjoy the snappy, sarcastic wit and cussing that comes with philosophy discussions and arguments. Most people'd prolly say I'm a nice, weird, 1 of-a-kind bastard.Oh yeah, and I always type a lot to explain what I mean.

Books:

I'm a big fan of random, stupid humor and books full of action, philosophy, altruism, wisdom, and practicality. Maybe throw in some violence or crazy ninja skills. I tend to read that stuff more than anything. It's basically insight that changes the way I think about life and the world around me. Some of my favorites are Jack Handy's Deep Thoughts series, Far Side, Scrabble Dictionaries, William S. Burroughs, Jack Kerouac, Practical how-to crap, Humor books, Philosophy books, Stranger in A Strange Land, Weird ass websites, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac Comics, Music Lyrics, Web pages, crossword puzzle books, instruction manuals, Food labels, Music Monitor, Juxtapose, The Funnies, Church of the Subgenius, Strong bad, Red Meat, the First Crow 3 part comic book, The Maxx, Tank Girl, BERSERK, Gungrave, Random textbooks, Rock Snob Dictionary, Truly Tasteless Jokes, Fantasy, Sci-Fi stuff, Manga, a bunch of random Underground Comics, Tom Wolfe, Thoreau, Plato, Emmerson, Douglas Adams, Robert Frost, Kafka, Sendak, Sagan, Terry Brooks Series, Neil Gaiman, Mercedes Lackey's Stuff with Gaiman, random Choose-Your-Own-Adventure books from the late 70's and 80's, Terry Pratchet, Socrates, Myths and legends from all cultures, Carlos Casteneda, Books about Philsophy and Religion, New age books, History stuff, Strategy guides, Shel Silverstein, Dickenson, Plato, Descartes, Timothy Leary, 100 things you don't know (And No One Else Does Either)", Books of quotations, Anthropology and Geology textbooks, Teacher Manuals, Books about inventions or cosmic theory. I read a lot about space and the different galaxies and nebulas. I primarily read more for practical information rather than pleasure unless there's something extra awesome about the book, or people bug me to read it.
