Making Emo Fun Since 2003!

About Me

In an age where scenes seem to rule over any popular genre of music bands on a local stage are seemingly attempting to emulate what is at that moment sitting comfortably in the charts. Be that emo such as Fall Out Boy, art rock such as Franz Ferdinand or Brit Rock such as the Arctic Monkeys bands all over the country are aiming to achieve the same sound in the belief that the same success could be achieved with this. With these scenes music crowds can become easily alienated from each other causing crowds at local shows to diminish but one band in Inverclyde is bucking this increasing trend.
yaG Backwards where formed in 2003 by 4 friends from Greenock with the aim of not being different or bringing something new to the local music scene but instead writing and playing songs crossing different genres. Once they had achieved a set solely of their own material people in the area started to take notice while they opened for more well established bands. Due to the difference in songs in their sets people running local band nights where able to place them on very different line ups with different crowds (already alienated by the scene mentality) which allowed them the maximum exposure possible, breaking the barriers of the different scenes in the town.
The songs themselves cover a wide spectrum of styles and are usually written with the idea of making the audience be able to get up, dance, sing along and ultimately laugh as well. Songs include; Emo Can Be Fun, There Is Nothing I Hate More Than A Band Full Of Scene Kids and our version of Everyone Has Aids from the Team America original soundtrack.
In the late summer of 2005 the bands first CD, a full-length album called Compact Disc was recorded and a large amount of local gigs where played in a small amount of time to promote it. The end result was the CD selling out at gigs and soon not being available at all. Anyone who was looking for our CD after this where directed to online sites where songs where hosted or band members sent out files over instant messengers free of charge. 2 CDs where also sent to different areas of Australia as interest from our online versions where noticed.
yaG Backwards may come across as an immature group of guys who should probably know better but they practice hard to write songs that a crowd as a whole would love. Almost anyone who sees us admits there is something in the set for them and this draws them back to us time and time again. Our ever-changing sets keep people guessing and they know if something new comes on to the scene that we will be ready to pounce on it and incorporate it somewhere into our own style.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: yagbackwards.tk
Band Members: COUPER - Vocals, Rythm Guitar and Kazoo

Couper holds the tag of "longest hair in band" champion for 3 years running . His dedication for this is only surpassed by his dedication to singing in the band (With the haircut and everything, shows you how dedicated he is!) Appearances of his trusty friend "Kazoo" who lives in his pocket also always brightens up anyones day, with her dulcet tones and raspy voice it sounds like an angel is in your ears. RIP Kazoo - 2004-2007
ROSS - Guitar and Backing Vocals

One time straight-edge, Ross struggled with life in yaG Backwards and finally hit the bottle in 2005 and is now part of the fixture and fittings for at least one evening of the week in either The Steamie, Red, or both. His power of guitar is fuelled by copious amounts of different pitchers and shots, which is handy as he is quite good.
JOHNNY "THE SEAWEED" BRANCHFIELD - Bass

Johnny started masterbassing when he was about 13, about the average age, and everyone knows that practice makes perfect. For the last 6 years he has perfected the art and it is now recognised that he is in the best masterbassing form of his life.
PUGGS - Drums and Backing Vocals

Desperation by others was the reason Puggs ever went near a drum kit. Apparantly bands with competent players of everything else will take on complete novice's so long as they can go 1-2-1-2-1-2. Luckily though over time his playing developed and although still actually does not own a drum kit he has enough elements to make it look like he knows what he is on about.
MICKMAN - Guitar

The newest member of yaG Backwards *applause*. Mick (also known as Mickman or Scottishpowerman at Halloween) is the sign that we have sold out. He works, is a student, own and drives a car and has a girlfriend. But don't worry, he still rocks the guitar. His basis for things is very metal (even though for some reason he can only play ska now that Ross taught him how to play it!) with Pantera being in his top band list every time... so you can tell he is in the right band for expressing it.
Influences: Anything from any popular genre (and probably unpopular ones too).
Sounds Like: Anything/Everything/Nothing/Good/Bad
Type of Label: None
