She is known for her hard hitting powerful lyrics,her pull no punches stage performances which are renownly expressive and dynamic and she is known to stir such strong reactions in her crowds and audiences with her gritty poetry and terribly honest batch of songs and on many an occasion has reduced a crowd to tears, gasps and laughter with her intense, funny and dramatic performances, songs and poetry.Her voice is often described as seductively vulnerable and her songs as controversial, political and strangely beautiful reflecting on such issues as her relationships with both womyn, reproductive rights, rape and sexual abuse, homelessness, drug abuse, self esteem issues, eating disorders and identity and gender issues and a striving for a better world and a higher consciousness for all humanity.Her work is constantly drawing comparisons to that of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen and her voice has drawn some interesting comparisons to that of Amiel and Fiona Apple.Born in the coastal town of Warrnambool, emmy was raised on a diet of Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and Beatles records and 'three fruit and five veg a day.' It is here that emmy's musical journey began at the age of six when she picked up a violin and started plucking like crazy. By the age of eight she was performing in orchestras, recitals and every chance she got for friends and family and every stage that presented itself to the young performer. As a child she would lock herself away for hours in her bedroom, practicing her violin, listening to the radio and writing short stories and poems that would later become songs. At the age of eight she wrote her first song 'Can't Let Go'. By the age of fourteen she had become restless with the somewhat restrictive ways of classical music and felt that she had more to express than just playing other people's music so she picked up a guitar and started writing songs. Her earlier songs like "Falling" and "Granted" were little ditties about love; but she found through writing songs especially at this young age it was easier for her to talk about things that hurt and affected her and her friends such as her family struggles, struggles of self identity, relationships and self esteem.It was around this time that she started writing songs and lyrics for local bands and performed her poetry and songs at festivals and competitions to rave reviews. By the age of sixteen she had written over two hundred songs and was getting restless in not being old enough to get ligit gigs and not having much of an outlet to perform in a small town. So she hitched a ride elsewhere with just a bag of clothes, her songs and her guitar and got some interest and offered some small deals with little indie labels that showed interest in her offerings. After watching a friend set up his own label and much after the deals with the small labels fizzled out cuz of creative differences (they were trying to make me into the next f****** celine dion!!!) she got the idea for Herstory Records; her own record label which offers a home for her outrageous material and evocative stage performances and for a variety of other artists to grow and develop and spread their beautiful baggy of musical talents!!!!She has also just completed a Bachelor Of Entertainment specializing in Music Business Management.She has also currently started an entertainment company called SWEET CECELIA ENTERTAINMENT to promote and market not only her own music and projects, but also music and projects and events of other really cool artists and bands such as FAITH IN THE DISTANCE. And she also runs a record label called HERSTORY RECORDS.She spent a lot of those years when she moved to the city writing songs and perfecting her craft; sleeping on friends and boyfriends and girlfriends and family's couches and in the search of any gig, or any open mike where she could strut her stuff. She sang in bands, performed in plays and was on the stage every chance she got. She has written two books, Confessions of A Sensualist and Pandora's Box of Razors and she has been recording endlessly heaps of albums over the last couple of years, (Shimmering Angel EP, Ophelia's Looking Into The Mirror, Be Still My Little Heart, The Monster In My Bed, Pandora's Box Of Razors and Soft Mouth, Yearning) which she hopes to release on her record label in 2008. She has also had a song that she co-wrote (Beautiful You) featured in the independent movie Potential Three. they said life wasn’t easy but this must be some sort of crazy joke you spend half your life with someone you can’t even stand and the rest of it wondering what it would be like to hold someone else’s hand so you surround yourself with the ideals that it’ll all work out in the end and if it doesn’t at least you can have a beer on a friday night with a very close friend you spend half your life being nice to people who don’t care at all who won’t remember you once you leave the office or the shopping mall sorting out problems that mean nothing in the face of everything like what should I have for lunch and did your lover ever call, did she ever ring? you spend half your life waiting for trains that’ll take you nowhere only to fill out more forms that will get ignored and end up in the shredder cuz everything must have a paper trail that leads back to the dealer and the debtor my whole life is written down here in paper blood and you ask me for the very first letter where the hell did i file that one away? if i had half a brain i think i’d be better off somedays it pays not to try and just go with the flow i guess i’ve got to switch every one of my senses off and just blindfold the despair and give into the mercy, you know i’m not trying to go against the current here but to surrender completely wastes too much of my time i keep looking frantically at my watch, thinking another day has gone and what have i done with my life? IF YOU COULD LIVE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD FOR A YEAR, WHERE WOULD IT BE? i would live in nepal and do charity work DO YOU HATE YOUR JOB? no. love it. I RECOMMEND.... that you live, laugh, dance and love with all your heart cuz you never know what tomorrow holds I ALSO RECOMMEND....that you live in the moment, don't worry about the future, you never know what it might bring! One time, me and my friends wagged school for a whole day, and we hitched a ride to South Australia for a day and did heaps of shopping! It was sooo much fun!!! Took two of my friends to pull him off me. It was random and sort of funny, meanwhile i won't be going back into that kebab store!!! WHAT'S THE BEST HOLIDAY YOU'VE EVER BEEN ON AND WITH WHOM? the best holiday i ever went on was with my dad, my cousins, my uncle and my aunt. we went to south australia and it was totally awesome. we went camping. and cruising on boats. going on bush walks. and exploring caves, deep underground. it was really cool and everyday held a new adventure! got some good pics, had lots of laughs but i could do without the elvis cds, dad!
