Roberta Usardi (RobyUsa) nasce a Vigevano (PV) il 24 agosto 1979. Da piccola si diverte sentendo e ballando la musica alla radio e viene iscritta a un corso di pattinaggio artistico a rotelle...tra le colonne sonore dei pezzi ballati per le coreografie sui pattini spicca Madonna, della quale colleziona piano piano tutta la discografia. A 14 anni inizia a fare le prime esibizioni come cantante in una tv locale e a 16 inizia lo studio del canto con il soprano lirico Daria Masiero, che imposta uno studio di canto moderno su base classica. Intanto inizia anche lo studio del pianoforte e della teoria musicale alla scuola civica di Mortara (PV). Continuano poi le esibizioni canore ai saggi della scuola, che frequenta per 4 anni. Nel 1998 entra a far parte del gruppo rock "Alph" di Vigevano e nel 1999 decide di cambiare insegnante di canto, così inizia lo studio della musica black con Luca Jurman a Milano. Intanto entra a far parte di una band dance anni '70 come corista e solista. Negli stessi anni è corista di un musical sulla vita di Freddie Mercury con il gruppo "Il Folle Pretesto". Nel 2001 entra anche a far parte del coro gospel "Corale Universitaria Lorenzo Valla" di Pavia in veste di solista e corista. Con questa nuova situazione inizia a prendere familiarità con l'improvvisazione vocale; nel 2003 e nel 2005 la Corale entra a far parte del "Coro Interuniversitario" della Città del Vaticano insieme ad altri cori provenienti da tutta Italia e riuniti a cantare in Vaticano (Aula Paolo VI) in presenza di Giovanni Paolo II in occasione di cerimonie religiose e repertorio classico. Nel 2003, dopo la laurea in Lingua e Letterature Straniere, si prende una pausa dallo studio del canto fino all'autunno 2005, quando torna a prendere lezioni dal cantante israeliano Sagì Rei. Sempre nel 2005 decide di trasferirsi a Milano, città che dal punto di vista musicale poteva sicuramente offrirle di più. Solamente nella primavera del 2006 torna ad esibirsi con un musical amatoriale scritto e ideato dai ragazzi dell'oratorio di Mortara; esso verte sulla storia vera del percorso spirituale di Padre Francesco Pianzola, prete vissuto in Lomellina. A ottobre 2006 entra a far parte come corista e solista di un coro gospel milanese di nuova formazione, i New Sunrise Gospel Choir. Nel 2007 invece inizia a studiare canto moderno con Paola Milzani, bravissima cantante diplomata al conservatorio di Milano. Nel frattempo si è esibita con diverse band nei locali milanesi portando un repertorio rock/pop/soul. Nel luglio 2007 si iscrive ai seminari di Umbria Jazz con gli insegnanti del Berklee College of Music. Questa esperienza la porta a fare un passo in avanti e a riprendere alacremente lo studio della teoria musicale unitamente ad affrontare con la sua nuova band, i Nightshift, un repertorio jazz - pop. Con questa band incide un demo a fine 2007. Nell'agosto 2007 si iscrive alla quarta edizione del seminario di perfezionamento vocale presso l'Istituto Musicale della città Thiene (VI) che vede la partecipazione del Maestro Luca Pitteri (Amici) e della coreografa Alessandra Dall'Amico sotto la coordinazione del Maestro Lorenzo Fattambrini. Il gruppo formatosi nel seminario, e già costituente un vero e proprio gruppo gospel, gli IMT Vocal Project, si esibisce con successo in varie occasioni nella meravigliosa terra veneta. Dalm ese di novembre 2007 Roberta è anche lead vocalist di una band rock, i Just Lust, di nuova formazione. Attualmente Roberta sta esplorando il fantastico mondo della vocalità jazz ed è entrata a far parte di un quartetto, i King's 4tet, formato da giovani e talentuosi musicisti: Stefano Re alla chitarra, Diego Nebuloni al basso e Simone Danesi alla batteria. Con Loro sta lavorando a un repertorio standard jazz/bossa/blues da presentare ai locali e a prossimi concorsi a carattere jazz. Nel maggio 2008 viene selezionata tra gli 8 finalisti per la quarta edizione del concorso "Giovane in Jazz" organizzato dall'Associazione Jazz Lighthouse di Genova; come da regolamento, Roberta si esibisce con l'ausilio di una sezione ritmica composta da musicisti di alto livello quali Massimiliano Rolff (contrabbasso), Fausto Ferraiuolo (piano) e Matteo Ottonello (batteria). Non contenta, Roberta sta lavorando anche a dei pezzi inediti in lingua inglese, che spera vedano presto la luce e sfocino in un album di esordio.
Roberta Usardi (nickname RobyUsa) was born on 24th August 1979 in Vigevano (Italy - Pavia Province) and since she was a little child she loved to dance and sing everythiing passing on the radio. But it was only at the age of 16 that she starts taking singing lessons from Daria Masiero, a well known soprano. So Roberta started learning the basics of the voice training: breathing, sound, vibrato, dynamics. She started playing piano and studying music theory, too. In the meantime she starts rehearsing with some rock bands and experiences her first live performances. In 2000 she changes singing teacher and takes lessons from Luca Jurman, a well known singer in Italy, who went on tour with Laura Pausini. She studied with him black music for 2 years. In the meantime, while at university, Roberta enters a gospel choir as background vocalist and soloist, called "Corale Universitaria Lorenzo Valla" in Pavia and starts being familiar with vocal improvisation; she stays with them up to spring 2005. After her graduation in Foreign Languages and Literatures in 2003, Roberta stops taking singins lessons and goes on on her own up to 2005. The year 2005 represents a change in her life, as she moves from the town to the city, that is, Milan. During this year she takes singing lessons from the singer Sagì Rei and then from the amazing singer Paola Milzani. Milano is a good chance to find a lot of music and Roberta finally becomes lead singer of a Tribute band to Alanis Morissette and a funky-soul band. The collaboration with both of them stops after less than a year, but other music experience were around. In fact, she takes part in a musical with some people of her native town and enters a gospel choir in Milan as background vocalist and soloist, the New Sunrise Gospel Choir. She also becomes lead vocalist of a jazz-pop band, the Nightshift. In Summer 2007 she attends the Umbria Jazz Clinics Workshop, which involves the teacher of the Berklee College of Music. This experience touches her very deeply and makes her understand how to go further with music. In August she enters another workshop in Veneto, the IMT Vocal Project, with the coordination of Lorenzo Fattambrini and the presence of Luca Pitteri (famous vocal teacher in a TV Programme) and the coreographer Alessandra Dall'Amico. In the fall of 2007 she starts studying music theory again and records the demo with the Nightshift band and the one of the gospel choir, too. She entered also a rock band called Just Lust in November 2007. Presently Roberta is exploring the thrilling world of jazz and is vocalist of a new jazz band, called King's 4tet, composed by young and talented musicians: Stefano Re at the guitar, Diego Nebuloni at the bass and Simone Danesi at the drums. They are working on a standard jazz/bossa/blues repertoire and getting ready to perform in clubs and future jazz competitions. In May 2008 Roberta is selected to participate a the 4th edition of the "Giovane in Jazz" competition, organized by Jazz Lighthouse Associacion in Genova; according to the rules of the competition, she performs with high-levelled musicians as Massimiliano Rolff (bass), Fausto Ferraiuolo (piano) and Matteo Ottonello (drums). Not happy with all her activities involving music, Roberta is going to do all her best to make her most longing wish come true: to work on and eventually record her own songs (in English) and possibly realize her debut album.
