About Me

If you don't know me out in meat-space, here's the short bio. I was born in Phoenix, Arizona. I'm the only daughter of writer/game-designer Ken St. Andre . As a kid, mostly I drew pictures, now mostly I write, but nothing all that worthwhile, just blog rantings so far. Was briefly active in drama in high school. Dropped out of college. Fell in love with a Nevadan, moved to Nevada, married him. Worked in libraries and call-centers a lot, now work in a Blockbuster video store, *LOVE IT* except for the occasional, um, "jerk" customer and how I'm never making enough money. I love movies, books, comic books (the indie sort, mostly), anime, psychology, philosophy and politics, not necessarily in that order. And music, too. One of these days I plan to "get it together," but I'm not really sure what that means. Sometimes I think about leaving MySpace because it's so corporate, and because I hate the banner ads. I mean, here I try to design a little space full of Jilliany stuff that'll delight and inspire -- or at least amuse, and then MySpace sticks Ann Coulter's obnoxious face up at the top -- or an advertisement for L'Oreal lipgloss, and I hate those bastards because they test on animals ... Well, when you find a networking site that has all the good features of this one, and none of the stupid corporate bullshit, do me a favor and clue me in. Thanks.
Oh yeah, and I was wrong about Iraq, WMD, and the war. See, Hillary, it's not so hard.

..TR Outcast Genius
73 % Nerd, 69% Geek, 65% Dork For The Record:
A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.
You scored better than half in all three, earning you the title of: Outcast Genius.
Outcast geniuses usually are bright enough to understand what society wants of them, and they just don't care! They are highly intelligent and passionate about the things they know are *truly* important in the world. Typically, this does not include sports, cars or make-up, but it can on occassion (and if it does then they know more than all of their friends combined in that subject).
Outcast geniuses can be very lonely, due to their being outcast from most normal groups and too smart for the room among many other types of dorks and geeks, but they can also be the types to eventually rule the world, ala Bill Gates, the prototypical Outcast Genius.
Congratulations!

Okay, just one more!

A man should never impose an overpowering fear upon his household.

-- Babylonian Talmud.

... though goodness without knowledge is weak and feeble, yet knowledge without goodness is dangerous, and that both united form the noblest character, and lay the surest foundation of usefulness to mankind.

-- Dr. John Phillips.

In a country well governed, poverty is something to be ashamed of. In a country badly governed, wealth is something to be ashamed of.

-- Confucius

One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.

-- Plato.

A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government.

-- Edward Abbey.

Between government in the republican meaning, that is, Constitutional, representative, limited government, on the one hand, and Empire on the other hand, there is mortal enmity. Either one must forbid the other or one will destroy the other. That we know. Yet never has the choice been put to a vote of the people.

-- Garet Garrett

Were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter.

-- Thomas Jefferson.

The deterioration of every government begins with the decay of the principles on which it was founded.

-- Charles-Louis De Secondat.

Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.

-- Mark Twain.

Republicans like to run by saying that government doesn’t work. Then they get elected, and they prove it.

-- Al Franken.

If you must hate, if hatred is the leaven of your life, which alone can give flavor, then hate what should be hated: falsehood, violence, selfishness.

-- Ludwig Börne

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)

If you are Christian and some of the ACLU's political positions are disturbing to you, I recommend checking out The Rutherford Institute as an alternative (pro-Christianity) civil liberties organization. This does not mean that I agree that the ACLU is anti-Christian, just that I acknowledge that they've taken some positions which could be viewed that way by certain conservative Christians. Christian or not, conservative or liberal, I think everybody should be concerned with protecting civil liberties and human rights, so here's your alternative.

What is absurd and monstrous about war is that men who have no personal quarrel should be trained to murder one another in cold blood.

-- Aldous Huxley

This business of burning human beings with napalm, of filling our nation's homes with orphans and widows, of injecting poisonous drugs of hate into veins of peoples normally humane, of sending men home from dark and bloody battlefields physically handicapped and psychologically deranged, cannot be reconciled with wisdom, justice and love.

-- Martin Luther King

Make sure the kids are out of the room before you click on this one. This is a video that'll tell you all about depleted uranium. And it has pictures.

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

-- Thomas Jefferson

Historically, the most terrible things--war, genocide and slavery--have resulted from obedience, not disobedience.

-– Howard Zinn

Because my love is there ... with his *SLUT* girlfriend ...
Nature has finally been completely conquered by humankind. Things like trees and bunny-rabbits just don't exist any more. Except for the little bio-dome sort of nature preserves that have been set up in orbit of the earth. And you work on one of those. And you love it. But all the rest of the assholes who work with you think it's a stupid waste of time. Who needs trees and bunnies? Not humanity, obviously. And then you get the word that it's all going to be destroyed. What do you do?
Substance abuse, rape, murder, police brutality, cover-ups, double-crossing, all set against a backdrop of racial tension. Oh yeah, and some cheezy improbable sci-fi gizmos, too. What's not to love?
I heard Bruce Willis was so psyched when he made this one that he did it for free, the only pay he got was from the royalties after it was a hit. I don't know if that story's true, but if you've seen the movie, you can imagine it might be.
Even if this movie weren't awesome, which it is, I'd probably still love it because it has Christina Ricci, and it was the first place I ever heard one of my favorite songs: Heart of the Sunrise, by Yes. Um, and in case anyone's seeing a theme with this movie and the one I listed right above -- no, I do not have a kidnapping fetish. That's only a coincidence. Please do not kidnap me. Heh heh.
Here's the best buddy-cop movie ever made. How could it not be when it has Whoopi Goldberg, Sam Elliott, and the incomparable Brad Dourif? And a guy chewing up glass and spitting it out into another glass so that it looks like a strawberry margarita! AAAAAAAAAAA!
