Welcome to a jungle of a different kind

About Me

I think for myself. I like to smile and do it a lot. I say the f-word a lot - - but always mean it. I'm a good cook. I like how I smell without any chemical additives. I'm getting much better at making coffee. I spend most of my time with Jack, my cello, because he doesn't do me any favors, doesn't hold anything against me and doesn't go around saying dumb things.

My Interests

playing the cello, drinking good coffee, reading anything I can get my hands on, bubble baths, cooking exquisite cuisine, art, chatting, doing yoga, knitting, mushroom shaped haircuts, Fluxus, being outside, pretending I have a dog, road trips with the windows down, popping popcorn the old fashioned way, kneading bread, making arabic food with my grandma, late night field trips, and apparently putting together puzzles

I'd like to meet:

people who have things to say. people who make me smile. anyone with a penchant for a good gospel choir and some vegetarian soul food.

Music:

pretty much any and all music for solo cello, Yolanda Adams, Ani diFranco, John Zorn, P.J. Harvey, Alas No Axis, Mary Lou Lord, Dirty Three, Sonic Youth, Velvet Underground, Bikini Kill, Fugazi, Xenakis-- anything that means something

Movies:

Amelie, Basquiat, The Jerk, High Fidelity, Gummo, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, Grosse Point Blank, Good Will Hunting, All About My Mother, Harold and Maude, Ma Vie en Rose,

Television:

TV is evil....and very addicting. That's why I gave mine away.

Books:

The Color Purple, New Ethics of Eating, Love in the Time of Cholera, The God of Small Things, People's History, Le Petit Prince, 1984, Living My Life (Emma Goldman), The Picture of Dorian Gray, Death of a Salesman, Harold and the Purple Crayon, L'Etranger, Brave New World, Noam Chomsky, The Old Man and the Sea, anything and everything by Simone de Beauvoir, Good Night Moon

Heroes:

Pablo Casals, Alice Walker, Cesar Chavez, Frida Kahlo, Simone de Beauvoir, Shinichi Suzuki, Emma Goldman, Annie Sullivan.....People who think for themselves, go with their gut, make the sacrifices and make the world a better place. (I'm a sickeningly idealistic person struggling in reality.)
