About Me

Tammi was born and raised in California’s Northern bay area.. Raised in a Christian and musical family, she began singing at the tender age of 3. By the time she was 4, she was signing and playing piano and organ. Her family attended the Christian Apostolic Faith Church in Oakland, California where here mother played the organ and father played the electric guitar – Tammi, began playing and singing for the church after turning 5 years old. Having no formal musical training, Tammi had to learn songs “by ear” that greatly enhanced her ability to identify the key in which any song was played without the use of a tangible instrument. This skill enabled her to teach several vocal parts to the choir she directed with ease – creating beautiful harmonies.Although the church that the family attended did not condone the playing of secular music in the home, Tammi’s parents allowed her to listen to any type of music she enjoyed. She loved the powerhouse singers such as Tramaine and Annette Hawkins, Chakka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston as well as the smooth styles rendered by the ladies of Jazz: Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Holiday, and Dusty Springfield. She also enjoyed classical music as well and learned several Bach preludes completely by ear on the piano. At age 14, Tammi and her two very talented younger brothers, Tommy Brown (world-renowned Bassist) provided the music for the Ebony Fashion Fair runway show in San Francisco, California. This was a pivotal point for the young “Trio” their Father, Thomas Brown, called the “Three T’s.”Tammi’s first real recording experience began with the talented engineer/musician named Akil Wemusa at Wemusa production studies. Akil was the driving force behind helping Tammi establish, “her sound” and told her “you have to be comfortable with who YOU ARE.” The work began with recording the song “Stay in the Race” (co-written by Tammi & Frank Threadmgill) which landed a spot on the radio station Wild 107.7 with Jo-Jo Wright. The demand for the song was so overwhelming that Jo-Jo had to call her in the studio for several radio interviews. Music managers, A&R as well as Record label Executives began calling the station to inquire about “Tammi Brown.” This landed Tammi a change to fulfill here dreams of meeting Terri Lewis & Jimmy Jam in Edina, Minnesota. Tammi met with the dynamic producing duo (who can boast of many successful projects with Janet Jackson and Sound of Blackness) and began negotiating a deal to write and produced a song for Sounds of Blackness. Unfortunately during negotiations, tragedy struck with the passing of Tammi’s Mother, Delores Brown. The loss was tremendous and Tammi needed time to deal with the death of her mother. With the Terri & Jimmy deal just a memory; Tammi focused all her attentions on serving God and changing her life.Tammi was introduced to and began singing background vocals for the extraordinary woman (“Sista Monica”) who sang R&B, Blues, and Gospel in the local clubs on the Central Cost of California. Sista Monica produced a show at a large auditorium in Santa Cruz, California – she asked Tammi to perform some Gospel songs for the show. Enjoying Tammi’s songs and vocals Sista Monica invited Tammi to sing background vocals in her band called Sista Monica & The Essentials on some of the songs during her performances which gave Tammi more confidence on the stage and in her ability to “deliver” a song to a large audience. The “Sista” referred to Tammi as “Sweet Tammi Brown” after delivering a moving rendition of Chakka Khan’s “Sweet Thing.” In the audience that evening was the girlfriend of legendary jazz guitarist, Stanley Jordan. Tammi was later introduced to Mr. Jordan and began working and performing with him on several projects over the years.Tammi is launching out on her own. She has written several original songs, and is ready to take the world by storm with sultry sound and melodic music.
