My name is Bernadette Giacomazzo, and I am the president and founder of AKASHA MULTIMEDIA , an NYC-based promotions, publicity, marketing, and photography firm.
I'm also the co-author of the critically acclaimed book, Swimming with Sharks: A Real-World How-To Guide to Success (and Failure) in the Business of Music . We are available through all F.Y.E. stores thanks to a distribution deal with Stretch the Skies Entertainment, and through all download outlets (including iTunes) thanks to a record deal with legendary punk label Conquer the World Records .
I never thought I'd have a record deal before any of my musician friends did, but it is what it is...
I've worked with major labels (Astralwerks), major bands (The Darkness), and booked major tours (Artimus Pyle). I'm an agency-represented, professional photographer , a poet, a priestess (trained in the Path by the Rev. Dr. Lady Auset), a lover, a fighter, a proud aunt, and a music industry professional who has remained in the game long after many of her contemporaries have fallen by the wayside. I recently went "back to my roots," so to speak, in journalism, and became a writer and photographer at The Herald. So far, I have done six cover stories, and have had two cover photos published. I have also joined the Triond staff as a syndicated writer and photographer.
And, as luck would have it, I've been re-bitten by the acting and modeling bug and joined Theatre 33's acting troupe and got cast in a movie, Witchmaster General (see the blog). I've also been lucky enough to line up shoots for several print campaigns (check the calendar, and periodically check the photo album A Work in Progress for tear sheets and the like). My latest book is THE GREAT SATURDAY NIGHT SWINDLE (formerly Shallow Water) (scheduled for first draft completion in April 2008; I've already got an interested publisher!). After the success of Swimming with Sharks, I figured the time was right to tell the true story of my experiences in the music business. As Willie (Shakespeare) rightfully pointed out, the pen is mightier than the sword (and many of you know I'm quite adept with the sword, too).
I'm also very heavily involved in licensing for television, film, and video games -- I licensed Tracy Johnson's song to the movie Winter of Frozen Dreams starring Thora Birch (American Beauty) and Dean Winters (Rescue Me). Recently, I helped license music for the soundtrack to the upcoming indie flick Walkin' My Baby Back Home (seen here on the top friends), and have licensing negotiations lined up for two more films and a -- wait for it -- soap opera (giggle). I was also involved with the contract negotiations for Finespun's worldwide commercial for Acuvue. In short, I expect nothing less than better than the best from myself...and I expect the same from everyone who has ever come in contact with me. This may be intimidating to some of you, but then again, a person of quality is not threatened by another of equality. If I intimidate you, move along, because I have no time, patience, or desire to associate with people who simply settle for mediocrity instead of striving for the best of what life has to offer.
In other words, you will come up to my level, because I will not go down to yours. I do not suffer fools gladly.
If you could begrudge me a bit of time to get metaphysical (well, really, what do you expect from someone whose company name is Akasha?): I believe in constant evolution -- spiritual, physical, mental, professional, sexual, etc. -- and I think half the problem with the human race is that they're content with being where they are, at the given time, and letting evolution come to them via some strange combination of predestination and Darwinism. I, however, view evolution as a process that one must constantly seek out -- it's up to us, as individuals and as a collective, to make it happen for ourselves. If you want something, get it -- and if you can't get it, it's most likely because you've not evolved enough to do so. The biggest impediment in your conscious evolution is yourself, and the people you surround yourself with -- if you insist on surrounding yourself with psycho groupies, drug addicts, drama queens, and people who otherwise rip apart your self-esteem and deny you even one minute of your conscious evolution and ineffable joy, you'll poison yourself on so many levels. And you will have no one to blame for you lack of evolution but yourself.

My Interests

I'm here to meet anyone, really, but mostly people in the music, entertainment, and fashion industries. Building an incomparable network is my goal. I'm a person who has faith and belief in her convictions, and they're rooted in scholastic intelligence, brutal honesty, and the wisdom of experience. I am who I am -- take it or leave it.
Star Wars Horoscope for Sagittarius
You are superbly wise and have been known to spread your wisdom widely. You are impatient and pushy when people take your teachings too lightly. And your philosophical side always peeks through.

Star Wars character you are most like: Yoda What is Your Star Wars Horoscope?

I'd like to meet:

I use MySpace as a networking tool, so I can meet other people in my chosen fields, generate clients, and meet my soon-to-be classmates/fellow PhD candidates. However, I am not averse to meeting fellow interesting, intelligent, evolved, and/or creative folk, who like to contribute positive things to the world. Feel free to drop me a line if you qualify -- I'm always up for interesting conversation. Drama queens, psycho groupies, and other wastes of DNA need not apply.

Also, since there's no nice way to put this: My mother didn't raise a ho...she raised a WOMAN. I don't need random wannabe thugs, whiny emo crybabies, drug-addicted wannabe rockstars, and other assorted wastes-of-time to verify that I am the $hit...I AM the $hit, because I know who I am, and what I am, and what I stand for. If you can handle a strong, independent, intelligent, successful woman, by all means start a conversation with me...but if you're just looking for a random hookup, a "friend with benefits," or a ho, please keep walking.

Finally, know this: if your first language isn't English, or any other language I speak (I speak 6 others -- try me!), you get a pass if you flub spelling or grammar. If, however, you were born, raised, and/or educated in America, England, Canada, or any other country where the King's English is the lingua franca, there is no reason why you should EVER send an e-mail that ReAdS lYkE tHiS, use OMG U R SO KEWL without the slightest hint of irony, or say something along the lines of "whuz good mama holla atcha boi dawg u is fly." No need to quote Shakespeare when writing to me, but deliberate ignorance in an introductory e-mail is a HUGE no-no. Impeccable punctuation and syntax goes a LONG way with me. I promise. :-)
FOR THE RECORD: If there are any haters out there that have no one to hate on, feel free to hate on me. Sit there and say that I'm not the $hit when you know I am, bitch! (with thanks to Katt Williams)

Music:

Anything but country is fine by me. I like it all -- rap, rock, world, zydeco...if it speaks to my soul, it works for me.

..

Movies:

STAR WARS ...anything and everything Star Wars, and all forms of sci-fi. I also like indie movies with actual plotlines (remember those?) that focus on character development rather than tired Hollywood cliches. And, though I should never admit this, I have a soft spot in my heart for the movie Clueless. (Rollin' with the homies...)

Television:

Law and Order (original and SVU only; I can't stand Criminal Intent) and Rescue Me are my guilty pleasures. Usually, however, any documentary, news program, and/or medical show will suit me fine. During bouts of insomnia, I turn on ABC's World News Now, and for my news, I trust the BBC, RAI/UNO (Italian news station), and Le Journal (French news station).

Books:

Swimming with Sharks. Me and Melissa wrote it. And it won a few awards and accolades. Click here to buy it. You know you want to. :)

Heroes:

My grandmother/mother (who I miss every day).
The Egyptian Goddess Selket.
Any woman with the balls to refute every stereotype that exists for our gender (such as Hillary Rodham Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Grace Slick, Janis Joplin, Eddita Sherman, Gloria Steinham, Sharon Osbourne, Penelope Spheeris, et. al.).
Animal Rights Activists.
Pro-choice lobbyists.
Strong, intelligent women who rip apart insecure little girls, psycho groupies, gold-diggers who have babies just to "trap" men (and collect a check for the next 18 years), and various other wastes of human DNA.
Single mothers.
Single fathers.
Intelligent people in general.
My twin brother Ge'r (for never letting me forget who I am).
Doug Friday (my best friend in the whole world).
The Rev. Dr. Lady Auset (for opening my eyes to a beautiful world).
My nephews Antonio and Julian (for inspiring me to be a better person).
And a few other people, too... Love flourishes -- you've got to value love, supreme. [Mother Love Bone]
