Candida Valentino

"One of the few European woman to sing Khargyraa"

About Me

Candida Valentino is currently one of the only western woman to have been blessed to teach Mongolian Khoomii overtone singing by her teacher Tserendavaa . She travelled to Mongolia in 2000 with Michael Ormiston to experience the land, the people, their lifestyle and where the tradition of Khoomii comes from, West Mongolia, Chandman sum. She has also met on several occasions the Tuvan Band Huun Huur Tu, and has been inspired to learn the style of singing called Khargyraa, a subharmonic style or undertone singing. You can hear her singing this style on Michael and Candida’s latest album Altai Himalaya on Distant Lands. A highlight of Candida.s musical career was working with the RSC in Rupert Goolds’ 2006/7 production of The Tempest, where she sang Khoomii and Khargyraa within the musical compositions created by Adam Cork. She leads workshops throughout the UK and Europe with Michael Ormiston, teaching Mongolian Khoomii singing, Bija Mantra sanskrit seed syllable chanting, Tibetan Singing Bowls, and Symphonic Gongs. Candida completed The Healing Power of Sound Teacher Training with Chris James back in 1998 and is very enthustiastic to pass on what she has experienced within the Sound Transformation and conscious listenening world, in workshop situations, concerts and recordings.
