Profile GeneratorOk, our club first year, in a big nut shell: early spring 1998 was the club's
beginning. I had considered reviving the traditional club me and some friends who cruised Central Ave had started the FLAT-TOP-CATS , the name from the fact that we had short hair, sort of a flat top/pomp with the roll on the sides, kinda like what Setzer had then, and a song line from Good Golly Miss Molly (the flat top cats and the dugaree dogs, headed for the gym for the sock hop ball). Our club name in chrome tape on the back window and the cat hand painted(I'll find a copy of the logo) the logo was done by Ed Roth for us (pretty cool ) with Big Daddy's blessings and permission. If you think people look at us like we're wierdo's now....... this
was 1986 the Footloose era, (Adam was in high school, and Peter was
in Elementary). We went to car shows & Nostalgia drag races and hung out at
Burger Haven on central ave, before the 5 & Diner was built, we also never missed the show at LB's diner at 16th and osborn first friday of the month. We had no rockabilly show to go to at the bar, no club plaques, we were the scene in Phoenix, it was a 50's car thing. But as time goes by, guys got married, had babies, got careers, and it just faded away. I still carried the torch however...........
Fast forward to 1998: Me and my brother Pete are at the Lone Wolf show cruising under the stars and the show placard had a spot for club name........I had just completed the transformation of my chevy from early 60's gasser to sled. We really looked outta place, as the only other custom was a '49 Merc with Honda headlights, graphics and billet wheels..(yuk)..so we write on the show card INVADERS Car Club. Lock up yer wimin and wiskey cause we have invaded yer show (our manifesto of mayhem) and thus it all began!
At that time you count all the traditional cars in phoenix metro and not run out
of fingers. By October of 1998 we found another club had formed-the
RATTLERS headed up by Howard Greenfield. I had seen his Model A/32 coupe at VLV the first year in 1997 with the other 40 cars, but I didn't know he was from Phoenix. My car didn't make it but I did, the Chevy was on jack stands with a new engine waiting to go in. But this was the beginning of our association with the Shifters, if you were there I was in my black leather jacket with the FLAT TOP CATS logo painted on the back, I spent the weekend pretty shit faced with Axle, Anthony, and Sinus. I do remember seeing Jeff Mosca's bel air on the garage roof and it had Arizona plates but did not see him, and another, a 56 Ford in grey primer, the owner Neil, who was wearing his jacket from his band VOODOO SWING that may have played there...I think Freddy was with him, but my memory is kinda booze fuzzy!
The three of us came up with a plan to bring what we had seen in Southern
California to Phoenix. In November, the weekend before the First GOOD GUYS in Scottsdale we had our first show, called ROCKING ROLLING AND BOWLING- 5 BANDS, BEER AND BOWLING WITH THE COOLEST CARS, with Exit 56, Three Bad Jacks (1st gig they had in Phoenix), Curse of the Pink Hearse (no shows for the first time), Dante's Inferno's, Rumble Cats and Limey Dave and his Alley Cats from England. The show took place at the historic Northgate Bowl, the flyers read. BIG spectator turnout, 18 cars, we were in the hole big time after we paid the bands but we did it! It looked and felt like the shows the three of us had been to in southern California, we gave out bowling trophy's with cars on the top, a new club member Tobias Kernutte we had just initiated, heck we even had an after party at the Blue Note with some of the bands.....pretty impressive stuff for 4 guys who didn't have any idea of how to put one of these on.
That sums up year one of the club, I have been working on a club history with
pictures, I'll just have to get back on it. Check out the pictures attached........it started with two guys with a lust for 50's cars, fun and mayhem! In perspective, imagine a lame Phx parking lot car show in 1998, and 4 time warp cars come rumbling in with the Sun Demons blasting on the stereo.....that was some cool shit. They had just been INVADED!
High time we start INVADING shows again with bigger numbers I think ..... the

Hey thats right we will catch up with you and yes WE DO OWN OUR CLUB NAME LEGALLY!! we are registered with our name and logo trademarked. there are ramifications for copying our name and logo in court...also set fines per the law.
