Founded in 2002 by a small group of passionate filmmakers and artists, the Brooklyn Underground Film Festival has successfully created an outlet for emerging new voices from around the globe. Focusing on independent and new film talent, the Brooklyn Underground's mission is to create a fresh arena for discussion between filmmakers, artists, and audiences in an explorative and inspirational environment.The 4th Annual Brooklyn Underground Film Festival runs April 19 - 23, 2006 at the Brooklyn Lyceum in Park Slope. Last season more than 100 films from 12 countries were screened. The five-day festival is attended by more than 3,000 people ranging from ages 18 to 87 including filmmakers, artists, film industry members, celebrities, press, local arts organizations, and community leaders.The festival has been featured and recommended in The New York Times, Time Out, The Daily News, The New York Post, and included in segments of BBC’s Talking Movies and WNYC’s The Brian Lehrer Show.This year more than 1,000 film submissions were received from all over the world. The program contains approximately 100 films, consisting of shorts and 10 features.Also, this year more than one-hundred fine art and photography submissions were received from artists. The art show is an integral part of Brooklyn Underground’s unique goal of creating a flexible venue as an oasis for all attendees. The 2006 art show will open April 19 at the Brooklyn Lyceum and run through June 19, 2006.In addition to the film screenings and art show, festivities include free parties, Q&A sessions, and a music showcase.
