Genaro

gig at Glasgow's Flying Duck 18th July

About Me

Genaro are a band from the outskirts of Glasgow, in Scotland, consisting of Craig Snape - vocals/guitar/synths, Daryl Kellie - synths/guitar/vocals, Derek Bates - bass, Dominic Dixon - drums/guitar.
Genaro are signed to Benbecula Records , with a release put out in December 2005 as part of their new Minerals Series. They recorded their debut album, engineered by Dave Paterson at Cava Sound Workshops in Glasgow which was released in July 2007.

Other people say:

"...Genaro are a new breed of rock band, embracing influences but not regurgitating them, using familiar sounds but adapting them to their message, creating something unique out of well known elements..."Igloomag www.igloomag.com

" This is an album of rare craft and beauty. It’s easy to listen to without all the saccharine connotations of easy-listening, combining the more blissful side of Spiritualized with the broad sonic brush-strokes of a band like Doves, with the merest hint of late 60s Californian psych-folk."The Skinny 4/5: www.skinnymag.co.uk

" This is a band that is built to soundtrack the breaking of hearts and the healing of wounds. This album is steeped in emotion: it is absolutely everywhere, from the lyrics to the almost post rock songs that build gently into a stunning but usually unforgiving landscape. But what a landscape, bleak and pastoral it may well be, but Genaro make you want to stay there for ever.. "MusicOMH 5/5: www.musicomh.com

" Genaro’s self-titled debut is one of the best shoegaze albums of 2007. Genaro’s eponymous debut is destined to establish the Carluke quartet as the cream not only of the lysergic Scottish post-rock crop, but of all guitar-based UK music."TinyMixTapes 4/5: www.tinymixtapes.com

" The introduction to the cinematic ‘Garp 52’ is really quite brilliant, recalling the hopelessness of a post rock ‘House of the Rising Sun’ with the rest of the song building into a dark country foot stomper."The List 4/5: www.list.co.uk

"this excellent debut is of the type which requires one to employ high-falutin’ adjectives such as glacial, epic and majestic in a vain attempt to fully evoke the dense atmospheric sound it showcases, which on first listen invites comparison to Heaven Up Here-era Echo and the Bunnymen, Comsat Angels, Modern English and other doomy heavy-overcoat wearing bands from the early-80s.."Nude Magazine: www.nudemagazine.co.uk

"I got to see Genaro and they are absolutely brilliant - like Interpol or Echo and the Bunnymen. They play an achingly beautiful warm-synth led instrumental midway and I'm hooked" www.culturedeluxe.com

"Genaro seem to be the kind of band who are constantly moving forward...and in many different directions at once, which is what makes them so interesting". www.moleharness.co.uk
