R.I.P. Bobby Redd

About Me

Mulattorus began in early 2005, at least that's the first time we jammed together. Bobby caught up with me one night the year before when I was playing a show with Calcabrina and asked me if I wanted to jam. Of course I said, "fuck yes", because I had known Bobby since the Curious George/Sickshine days. I didn't know if it would go anywhere at the time, but just the prospect of playing with Bobby was enough for me.
I had all but forgotten about our previous conversation when I ran into Bobby at Downtown about a year later at a show. At that time, he told me that he had some other musicians and a place to jam lined up. I was stoked. When I got to the jam room, I met Clark, Kiffin, and Jursh for the first time. I didn't know any of these dudes personally outside of seeing them at shows and hearing their names from time to time. Bobby brought us all together. That's important, because all of those guys are good personal friends of mine now. I wouldn't have met these dudes had Bobby not set it up.
It turned out that everything kind of clicked for us. We wrote a few songs, and played some shows. Clark left the band and Red took over bass duties. We drove up to Fayetteville one weekend and recorded the songs that we had written at the time. We played a few more shows, and suddenly, Bobby was taken away from us all.
We haven't broken the band up, but we haven't played together since. We still talk, and see each other at shows. I think that Bobby's death brought us closer to each other than ever. That is what lives on as his legacy. He brought us all together, and even without him around in the traditional sense, he lives on in the music that he made.
We owe it to Bobby to keep going in some form or fashion. We have some recordings that haven't seen the light of day that we will begin finishing work on soon. In the meantime, if you're thinking about Bobby and missing him, listen to the songs on this site. Listen to some Copsodomy or Sickshine. He's still with us there. He was happiest when he was playing music, and this was none more evident than when we recorded the above tunes at Chuck's San Lazaro Studio. I'm glad I was there for it.

My Blog

Thanks for recording us, Chuck.

We never properly credited Chuck and Nigel with recording us, and I wanted to rectify that.  Deadbird Chuck is the one responsible for the recorded content that you hear on our mySpace profile.&n...
