Steve Hung

Texas Fingerpicker

About Me

Steve picked up the guitar at age 15. By age 18, he moved to Austin, TX and played open mic at The Cactus Cafe, a nationally acclaimed acoustic venue. While at the Cactus, Steve gained a reputation as "a killer guitar player" and "a Cactus favorite." Soon afterwards, Steve landed gigs playing at various venues around Austin while honing in on his technique and guitar-compositional skills in a city that honors the craft of guitar-playing.
Utilizing the folk-fingerpicking guitarwork of Eric Johnson and Tommy Emmanuel, integrated with classical guitar techniques, and heavily rooted in blues music with some jazz and rock inflections results in Steve's unique musical style. Because of this, Steve's compositions range from soulful, beautiful, and intimate, to groovy, killer, and stunning.
Fans, friends, peers, and press testify to Steve's talents. One fan, after witnessing Steve perform, reports "Wow! My soul feels fed by this . . . . your energy is very positive and it comes through in your music." James Fidlon, a UT guitar grad student, best summarizes Steve's music by testifying "I dig your tunes. Nice mix of styles, techniques, with a real authentic flavor."
