..centerI was born in Indiana andmoved to Tucson, Arizona withmy mother and siblings, andlived there until I was 12.Then moved to Louisville,Kentucky to live with myfather... my father boughtme my first camera...mycamera brought me to theworld of live rock and roll, atthe ripe young age of 16!!
..center Stumbling into any and all rockconcerts, with my camera intow, I began meeting an arrayof musicians and I beganphotographing anyone whocrossed paths with my cameralens. And as manager of aRecord Bar Store (at 17!) Ihad even more reason toattend as many concerts aspossible. Problem was, after 7years I had met so manypeople that lived in California,I was feeling like an alien inKentucky. California wascalling me home...
..center I moved to L.A. from Louisvillein 1980 with my oldestdearest friend Robyn, who wasexiting her marriage with thelate great Rod Price of Foghat.
..center Just 6 months after moving toLos Angeles I met bassistChuck Wright, at theWhiskey-a-go-go. We prettymuch spent the next 3 yearstogether, with plans ofmarriage...things didn't workout, but we do remainfriends.
..center After our break-up, I movedto Hollywood, that was 1983.In Hollywood, I worked for a cop who owneda tanning salon there, for justabout a year. Then I went into business withmy father, building and opening"Betsy's Quick Browning"tanning salon on Sunset Blvd.,across the street from thelegendary "Rock and RollDenny's".
..center Our business boomed! Takingin account that Hollywood wasfilled with 'beautiful people',who wished to view other'beautiful people', the salonwas the right move, in theright place. Many of the areastrippers & Tropicana mudwrestlers frequented my place as did many bands. While bandswere hanging on the strip,passing out flyers...I wasthere passing out flyers formy salon. Some ofmy clients included the toprock & roll, and heavy metalbands from the Hollywood area. We tanned everyonefrom Megadeth, Quiet Riot,Motley Crue, Ratt, Scorpions,Femme Fatale, White Lion,Whitesnake, Dio, Poison,Julliet, GNR, Faster Pussycat,Cats in Boots, Johnnie Crash, and many more bands and artists. My tanning salonwas known, like Denny's , andRock & Roll Ralph's...as the"rock and roll" tanning salon.
..center While owning and running thetanning salon, I somehowmanaged to go out almostevery single night ...to theRainbow, the Whiskey, toCamp Hollywood (my veryfavorite club!), to theCathouse (all locations), toBordellos, English Acid,X-poser 54, the Red LightDistict, Club Lingerie, theTroubadour, the CoconutTeazer, and of course, theRoxy.... I eventually got a phone callfrom Len Fagen, from theTeazer, asking if I would consider promoting someshows at his club, particularly"All Star Jams", starting withmy upcoming birthday... I loved that place becausethey didn't believe in the 'Payto Play' bullshit. So I figured 'what the hell...' and said, "lets do it!"
..center Needless to say, Len was extremely happy with my birthday show outcome. The house was filled to capacity with a long line down Sunset, and around the corner up Laurel Canyon! It stayed that way all night long. I continued promoting shows there for several years...doing jams with greats like Rudy Sarzo, Mitch Perry, Vivian Campbell, JeffPilson, Dave King, The Nelson Twins, James Kotack, Johnnie B. Frank, Billy Sheehan, Danny Stag,Slash, John 5 Lowery, members of Poison, KingdomCome, Quiet Riot, Jon Bon Jovi, GNR, Megadeth, theQuireBoys, and David Coverdale to name a few...
..center I have worked in the music industry for many years and have had a lot of fun... I wouldn't trade this job for anything, although I did take a 14 year break from it, I am back now and will most likely do this scouting thing 'til my dying day! Years ago I scouted (A&R) for record companies such as Capitol, Geffen, EMI and Metal Blade, and managed a few bands too...I managed John Lowery aka John 5 of Marilyn Manson when he was just 17...
..center And all along I was still doing as much live rock and roll photography as possible.
..center Another project I worked on was a show at the ROXY to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Beatles debut on the Ed Sullivan show...talk about ALL STAR! This was a project put on by Dokken bassist, Jeff Pilson & I. It made it into BAM magazines top 10 shows of the year!
..center When the rock scene got pushed out of Hollywood, I left too...but now, or as of June 2005, I find myself back in the scouting biz. I am now accepting excellent quality demos from unsigned bands. At present, I am submitting demos to J records, a subsidiary of Sony. I am working for Jeff Fenster, the Senior Vice President of J, once again, after a 14 year absence. And I intend on regrouping with a few other record companies, including A&M and others, where many of my old A & R contacts have risen to the top... So UNSIGNED BANDS... please email me for an address to send your demos to!
..center I also became an antiques dealer and was at the Sherman Oaks Antq. Mall for 8 years. Eventually, I was talked into getting a computer and discovered eBay. I have been selling there under the name heavenz2betsy, for 8 years ... With the internet, and all the new music and options, I will be working in both fields now.
..center I live very happily in the Angeles National Forest, in a mountain resort village up above Los Angeles, called Wrightwood. I live a quarter mile from the Mountain High Ski Resort, at about 6500 ft. above sea level...lots of snow in the winter!
..center I love good music, my 7 cats, my forest, sex, Rock & Roll, mountains, boys, Wrightwood, antiques, hiking, wildlife, clean air, honest men, comfortable fashion, intelligence, geneology, 'other peoples' kids, healthy foods, white wine, BLAZIN BUD... my dream house, my computers, my sound system (Bang & Olufsen), my new Canon Digital Rebel XT SLR camera, my friends and basically life itself.
..center And I love the fact that MySpace.com has made it possible to locate many of the people I lost when Hollywood faded out of the wonderful 1980's era!
