All of the photos seen on this page were taken by members of Supernatural Occurrence Studies unless otherwise noted. SOS photos have NOT been doctored in any way; they were taken, developed by reputable dealers and scanned. All were shot on simple 35mm cameras. Pictures like the ones contained within this page are NOT the norm. It is extremely difficult to obtain results like this in just one night of "ghost hunting". Instead, SOS photos have been compiled over the 11 years we have been in business. For every one photo seen here, hundreds of rolls of film were developed with no results. All conditions are controlled as much as possible during our "hunting" sessions. Atmospheric conditions, outside interference (lights, reflective materials, ETC.) were all accounted for. Something was present during our sessions resulting in the image being burned onto the negatives. What that SOMETHING is, we cannot say with one hundred percent confidence. BEFORE YOU CONTINUE, A QUICK WORD ABOUT SOS
Supernatural Occurrence Studies, Inc. was founded in February of 1996 by Jason Nhyte and Dave Black who had been researching the paranormal together since January 1995.
Within that time, Supernatural Occurrence Studies has acquired over 400 photographs as well as audio and video of paranormal phenomenon. Together, the members of SOS have logged over 4000 hours of field study and research, and have discovered and confirmed over 80 hauntings in and around the Chicagoland area. SOS has also developed some interesting new theories and ideas about "hauntings" but still freely admits that it's all still a mystery.
The ultimate goal of Supernatural Occurrence Studies is to try and answer many nagging questions that have plagued our minds as far back as recorded history. Every culture and religion has a belief in, or makes reference to, some type of afterlife - souls, spirits, and the like. SOS realizes there is probably a rational, logical, and scientific explanation for why that is.
To differentiate themselves from other paranormal research groups, SOS is trying to set a new way of thinking in the field of paranormal research by providing thought provoking new theories, ideas, and possibilities along with brand new fascinating cases that have not been researched before. Supernatural Occurrence Studies DOES NOT claim to have any answers. SOS DOES NOT say that their theories are correct and fool proof. SOS DOES feel, however, that new groundwork desperately needs to be laid for future generations to follow, pick up, and expand upon. They would like to be the ones to lie that much needed groundwork for future "ghost hunters" and paranormal enthusiasts alike. Supernatural Occurrence Studies likes to refer to themselves as "new school" paranormal researchers. They want to be remembered as the ones who came in and shook things up some.
Supernatural Occurrence Studies tries to take the hokiness out of what they do; they even refuse to use the word "ghost" because they feel it raises skepticism. SOS' basic fundamental outlook on "hauntings" revolves around the scientific principle that energy is never created or destroyed – it simply changes forms. The only thing SOS knows for certain is that they are dealing with some form of energy. Whether or not this energy is coming from the deceased is probable, yet remains to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
"We take the SUPER out of SUPERNATURAL" is one of their favorite quotes. SOS tries to bring everything they do down to an understandable level. They encourage people to go out and conduct their own investigations and gather their very own proof of the paranormal. "This is not an exact science", adds Jason Nhyte, founder of Supernatural Occurrence Studies. "We like to call it a pseudo-science, one riddled with holes and having no exact answers...yet."
