The Derbys

Tommy Gun Blues

About Me

The Derbys were born on Milwaukee Ave. as the sun set upon the Chicago skyline. It had only two members then, a bassist and guitarist/singer. After failed bands and the soul strangling nine to five lifestyle, Eva Bialecki and David Foster decided to team up and start something new. Their good friend Marty Petric was added on rhythm guitar and vocals. After long searches and grueling auditions, Mat Haywood joined as drummer. The four piece recorded a demo with Jim Diamond of Ghetto Recordings in Detroit, (who recorded White Stripes and Iggy Pop) and began booking shows all around the city and surrounding suburbs. However, things would stop short for The Derbys. After two years, the band’s individual members had their share of tragedy. A mugging and beating on the south side left one in the hospital. Another would fall victim to a drunk driver and yet another would get into an accident at work with a power saw. The latter was Petric who sawed through sixty percent of his left and unfortunately his playing hand. A new member would join by the name of Jake Youngberg while Petric moved to lead singer. Thus, a new chapter would unfold for the band as well as a renewed feeling of love between the members and the music, in turn creating a live performance reminiscent of the Stooges, MC5, and the Replacements. With their punk, garage and rock sound and a sheer passion for the songs they create, The Derbys have caught the eyes and ears of many looking for a true rock n’ roll band. The Derbys are here to bring music back to where it should be. PUT YOUR BIO SECTION HERE! Changes may take up to 2 mins to show on your profile
