new song from the "Songs of Love and Loss" project :
"True Love"
Hi,
singing is what makes me feel good !! I have been singing since I was a three year old !!
My father used to sing songs of Louis Neefs , a Belgian singer with a deep and warm voice.
My parents loved music, especially from crooners like Sinatra, Nat King cole, and many others.
It's the music I've grown up with.
Music has always taken up a lot of space in our family. My brother Geert is a drummer in several bands.
In our early youth we started our own band : Masters and Johnson, a funkband.
Singing is what gives me balance in life, it's healing me from all pain and sorrows and feels really meta-physical for me. I forget everything when I'm singing and it's a very natural way of life for me.
Singing is a way to express all my feelings. And when I'm singing : I am what I'm singing. I'm totally involved in every word, in every note.
I started singing in a professional way when I was 23. After the birth of my first daughter Maartje. And I never stopped singing and performing since then !
For 5 years I did the summerclasses from Jazzstudio in Dworp where I met a lot of musicians who became friends and colleques in Jazz.
I took lessons from Deborah Brown, Judy Niemack, Judy Silvermann, Liliane Dorekens in the conservatory of Ghent and a few lessons from David Linx.
In the Academy of Aalst and Ghent I took lessons for piano.
I was the singer from Jazzphonic, a Jazzband with 11 musicians . For a year ,we were the houseband from the BRT-Radio, live on fridays from 6 to 7 pm.
We played with the magical The Platters.
I worked with a lot of Jazzmusicians like Peter Hertmans, Jan De Haas, Jean Van Lint, Peter Verhas, Pascal Michaux, Serge Lazarevitch, Vincent Mardens,Koen Liekens, Jeroen Van Herzeele, Clee Van Herzeele, Eric Vermeulen, the late Philippe Venneman, Ben Sluys, Jan Muës, the late Bart Zegers, Frederik De Smyter, the Jeggpap NO Band, Philippe Aerts, Dré Pallemaerts,Calvin Owens, Tars Lootens,....
And then blues became a big part of my life after a while. And for more than ten years I sang the blues...with RED ROOSTER. Still playing together !
You can read everything about RR down under.
Since a few months I'm working with Jef De Corte on a cycle of love and loss.
You can listen to that music on his space www.myspace.com/aeronautsounds
It is lovely music : a new challenge for me.
Hope you like my music. Enjoy it !
Love from me
RED ROOSTER
THE STORY
RED ROOSTER is always on the move. That was the title of our thirth CD (On The Move). And it is still true today.
After the band had won the Westtalentcontest, organized by the BRT, RED ROOSTER became a favourite guest on national and international festivals.
They also played with Carey Bell, the harmonicplayer who also played on their second CD.
And so they got the chance to play on the English “The Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival†(Colne UK)
and they got very good comments there.
RED ROOSTER are 5 musicians : Walter Stes, bassplayer started the band and is still the 'father' of the band. He played double bass in the Royal National Ballet of Belgium for several years.
Didier Feys, drummer of the band, is playing since 1995 with them. Rocksteady and a man of grooves. He really gives a great impulse to the music.
Ann Van Canegem is the singer on the two last CD. She's touring with RED ROOSTER since 1996. She loves to sing blues and Jazz.
Chris Van Haeverbeke is the guitarplayer of the band. He also plays with Costa del soul where his daughter Frauke is the singer.
Gunther Callewaert plays the Hammondorgan and piano . He gives our music a lot of soul. Gunther is playing with several bands and celebs in Belgium.
RED ROOSTER plays own compositions where blues meets jazz and other influences like rock, funk,..
An act full of variety !
