DJ Payne has been a fan of jungle/drum and bass for over ten years. "From the first time I heard this music I was hooked. I was into hip-hop and Ragga before but always thought the music was too slow." Paynes love for the music progressed when he started to buy records and purchased his Technics decks. In no time Payne was playing in clubs and bars around the West Midlands area. Payne realised that to be a successful DJ in drum and bass you need to be making tunes and playing your own songs. In 1999 Payne started to learn how to make and write music he saved up and bought his first bit of equipment (EMU sampler) and an Atari ST. At the same time Payne decided to make a life changing decision and go to college to learn music technology. "I knew a bit about music production but I wanted to learn more". Payne was still DJing and on one eventful night played a set for a local live drum and bass band called the Zinga Warriorz. The Zingas were looking for a sound engineer and Payne being the opportunist took the role on. Paynes songs were beginning to develop and he would preview them to the Zingas who would give him a helping hand and eventually start playing them in their sets. Payne is now a member of the Zinga Warriorz, he DJs on stage with them giving them a different angle to other live drum and bass bands. The Zinga Warriorz popularity has grown and they are known up and down the country for there live performance and groundbreaking songs.Payne achieved a merit grade in his Music Technology HND and has just completed a Popular Music Degree at the University of Wolverhampton.Peace.
