SING’s OBJECTIVES
After my first visit to South Africa several years ago, followed by face to face encounters with so many people struggling to cope and survive, against all the odds, I’ve grown to understand a little more about the effects of poverty, coupled with the ravages of HIV Aids.
I have made a personal commitment to the issue of HIV and Aids, especially with regard to women and children, who have tragically become, more than ever, the prime victims. Women’s rights must be protected, with regard to the provision of decent education and health care, and against violence, abuse, exploitation, basic lack of respect and support. All the publishing and recording rights for the song “SING†will be donated to Treatment Action Campaign.
It’s just a beginning... One of the first steps in THE SING CAMPAIGN. Whichever medium I can use, through interviews in print, radio, TV, internet blogs, films, events...etc..I am determined to continue to speak up, and keep SINGING to spread the message, to try to make a real difference to people’s lives.
Among other things I am a 46664 Ambassador, a Treatment Action Campaign funder and supporter, an Oxfam Ambassador, a Life College mentor and supporter, a Greenpeace and Amnesty International member and supporter, as well as working for the Make Poverty History campaign.
Annie Lennox
To help raise awareness about the HIV/Aids pandemic, which is devastating the lives of millions of women and children.
To raise funds in order to help support the work of grass roots organisations such as TAC.
To support, educate and enlighten those who are affected or infected.
To encourage people at an international level to become more involved and pro active in supporting those who are worst affected.
To help break down the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS in order to create a more constructive dialogue and response at a community level, both locally and globally.
In the words of Nelson Mandela:
“This epidemic carries the face of women. It is women who bear the burden of HIV and AIDS.
Let every child be a healthy child! Let us use the universal language of music to sing out our message around the worldâ€!

Annie Lennox has teamed up with 23 of the world’s most acclaimed female superstar voices for the song Sing, to raise money and awareness for the HIV/AIDS organisation, Treatment Action Campaign (TAC). The original track is available to download through all online retailers; has been accompanied by special remixes that were made available on SATURDAY 1st DECEMBER – WORLD AIDS DAY. Annie Lennox recently spent 2 weeks in South Africa with the TAC, recording the real situation millions are facing every day, so the people unaware of the pandemic might gain some understanding. There are few resources to help medicate sufferers or educate the people about the prevention of HIV/AIDS. The trip will be documented across online, TV and print media produced by Annie Lennox herself.
Included among the group of superstar voices are TAC local activist members own vocal group, known as "The Generics", whose CD of social / political activist songs inspired Annie to make Sing a reality. Annie then personally approached each of the female artists by letter and the recordings were made all over the world in each artist local studio over the spring of 2007.
TAC was founded on 10 December 1998 in Cape Town, South Africa. They campaign for treatment for people with HIV and to reduce new HIV infections. Their efforts have resulted in many life-saving interventions, including the implementation of country-wide mother-to-child transmission prevention and antiretroviral treatment programmes. The TAC also runs a treatment literacy campaign: this is a training programme on the science of HIV treatment and prevention.
