If you have found yourself in The Absinthe Room, then you know right away that we are kindred spirits: We are instantly connected by our love of vintage clothing and unusual ephemera. You know that we must share at least one common interest and how fun is that! One of the best things about selling online and on ebay is that the buying and selling relationship creates a global village, where people from all over the world with similar taste and interests can find each other, and become connected.
Im so glad that youre here!
~And welcome to The Absinthe Room ~
I have always loved what was unique and exotic, something that held a story something odd, folk-y, something with dimension and depth, something that was timeless and classic. The vintage clothing that I collect and wear, and the ephemera in my home reflect this. I am inspired by travel, art, history, cinema, archaeology and culture. Sometimes even a walk downtown, or a trip to the grocery store will spark my intuition and ignite my creative firesand then its time to go shopping!
Vintage clothing is my first love, and I have been collecting fine threads for 25 years. My first piece of vintage was given to me in 3rd grade, a 1940s Lucite purse, and I still have it today. A born collector!
I never could figure out what I wanted to do when I grew up, I wanted to be an Archaeologist and at the same time a Fashion Designer-Movie Star! Hum, never the twain shall meet, until I found ebay. In The Absinthe Room I can combine all of my interests, my love of shopping, antiquities and fashion...I can then shop like an Egyptologist and seek to sift out the ordinary to find the extraordinary, and pass on these wonderful discoveries to you.
Once you enter the Absinthe Room you never know what you may find behind the gilded deco-door. From vintage clothing, and wonderful collector's pieces from around the world, to eclectic ephemera, and maybe some fine conversation among kindred spirits~ One thing is for sure, if I buy it, I love it! If I love it, I buy it!

I'd like to meet:
Ozymandias
I met a traveler from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read,
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed,
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look upon my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.
-Percy Bysshe Shelley
1792-1822
I am too alone in the world, and not alone enough
to make every minute holy.
I am too tiny in this world, and not tiny enough
just to lie before you like a thing,
shrewd and secretive.
I want my own will,
and I want simply to be with my will,
as it goes toward action,
and in the silent, sometimes hardly moving times
when something is coming near,
I want to be with those who know secret things
or else alone.
I want to be a mirror for your whole body,
and I never want to be blind, or to be too old
to hold up your heavy and swaying picture.
I want to unfold.
I don't want to stay folded anywhere,
because where I am folded, there I am a lie.
And I want my grasp of things
true before you. I want to describe myself
like a painting that I looked at
closely for a long time,
like a saying that I finally understood,
like the pitcher I use every day,
like the face of my mother,
like a ship
that took me safely
through the wildest storm of all.
Rilke
The world is too much with us; late and soon,
Getting and spending, we lay waste our powers:
Little we see in Nature that is ours;
We have given our hearts away, a sordid boon!
This Sea that bares her bosom to the moon;
The winds that will be howling at all hours,
And are up-gathered now like sleeping flowers;
For this, for everything, we are out of tune,
It moves us not.--Great God! I'd rather be
A Pagan suckled in a creed outworn;
So might I, standing on this pleasant lea,
Have glimpses that would make me less forlorn;
Have sight of Proteus rising from the sea;
Or hear old Triton blow his wreathed horn
William Wordsworth
may my heart always be open to little
birds who are the secrets of living
whatever they sing is better than to know
and if men should not hear them men are old
may my mind stroll about hungry
and fearless and thirsty and supple
and even if it's sunday may i be wrong
for whenever men are right they are not young
and may myself do nothing usefully
and love yourself so more than truly
there's never been quite such a fool who could fail
pulling all the sky over him with one smile
e.e.Cummings (19)
The common eye sees only the outside of things, and judges by that,
but the seeing eye pierces through and reads the heart and the soul,
finding there capacities which the outside didn't indicate or promise,
and which the other kind wouldn't detect.
Joan of Arc
A man rakes leaves into
a heap in his yard, a pile,
& leans on his rake &
burns them utterly.
The fragrance fills the forest
children pause & heed the
smell, which will become
nostalgia in several years
Jim Morrison
I Live My Life
I live my life in growing orbits,
which move out over the things of the world.
Perhaps I can never achieve the last,
but that will be my attempt.
I am circling around God, around the ancient tower,
and I have been circling for a thousand years,
and I still don't know if I am a falcon, or a storm,
or a great song.
by Rainer Maria Rilke (trans. by R. Bly)
