Hailing from the new indie rock hotbed of Omaha, Race For Titles has generated a unique blend of swirling guitars, dreamy vocals, driving bass and impeccable percussion, but not without a subtle tip of the hat to their hometown peers. The two guitars on Race For Titles' debut weave and twist like back roads that at once intertwine and then surprise you with sharp turns, and the dreamy overtones set against a punchy rhythm section evoke thoughts of solitary highway driving and an open sky. After releasing a split 7" with Neva Dinova and appearing on the compilation "NE vs. NC", Race For Titles released their self-titled debut on Redemption Records. This much anticipated full length received praise from national press as well as enthusiastic support from their hometown scene. Most recently, the band went on tour with fellow Omaha scenesters, Cursive, playing many sold out shows. RFT's record also debuted 131 on the CMJ Top 200 charts this month. What started out a year and a half ago as casual weekend writing sessions between James Massey (voice/guitar), formerly of Red Menace, and Zac Lorenzen (guitar) developed into songs that demanded their full attention. Bassist Ryan McLaughlin, who was also a member of Red Menace, soon joined the band, and after stints with The Faint and Commander Venus, drummer Matt Bowen was added.
