Since their inception in 2003, Zykos have been cited for their assured performances and inventive songwriting. Having previously released two full length LP’s and compiled a host of successful tours with many of your favorite bands (Cursive, TV on the Radio, Explosions in the Sky, Okkervil River, Ben Lee, Har Mar Superstar, The Good life, and The Hold Steady), Zykos spent the last few years revitalizing their song catalog. Their latest approach is one that feels much more informed by "the classics" than contemporary trends. Despite the shift towards a more epic sound with bigger harmonies, this quintet maintains all of their trademark chill-inducing intensity. From introspective, slow-burning choral landscapes to chaotic, combustible pop, this is a versatile rock band not afraid to explore myriad sonic impulses with equal proficiency. Clearly comfortable as a group, Zykos has the confidence to let their compositions explore space and advance naturally, often chugging forward with progressive intensity. Vocal duties have shifted to a two-headed approach including frontman and guitarist Mike Booher as well as pianist Catherine Davis, which has injected a new-found richness to the arrangements. Davis' lofty, angelic soften the edgy and affecting power of Booher's inimitable voice. Rhythm section Mike Roeder and Cully Symington (Bishop Allen/Twilight Singers/Gutter Twins drummer) provide vigorous organic pacing which serves as the perfect canvas for the exploratory nature of Zykos' dual guitars. On lead guitar,Alex Lyon brings the hammer to the axe through each song stopping just long enough to leave his indelible touch. He is a god among posers.
