"Karima..s BIOGRAPHY"I was born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brasil. My passion for the dance started already at the age of 4 years, when I started to enjoy dancing with my family and friends, who always encouraged me to do it.After school I studied and graduated in Classical Ballet and Modern Jazz at the well renowned School of Dances of Ismael Guiser. As well I studied other styles like Hawaiian Dance, Chinese Dance, Flamenco and the Afrobrasilian Religous Dances. Doing this, I learned to know the Egyptian Dances and fell in love with them deeply, so I decided to dedicate my studies mainly to them and became a professional dancer in this style. In 1986 my career in the egytian dance really began. I danced in arabian clubs and restaurants, in Hotels in Sao Paulo and at private occasions and soon I found myself deeply involved and well known in the huge arabian community in Sao Paulo. So I started to dance almost daily in the "Khan el Khalili" in Sao paulo and I did this for twelve years. I also offered exercises and workshops for many students. In the 80..s I was proud to be named as one of the most prominent bellydancers of this decade in Brasil and soon I found myself performing in various shows all over Brasil. In this time of dancing some other artists and musicians of the brasilian Pop-Rock scene became aware of my work and invited me to work with them. So I had the pleasure and the privilege to work together with Taciana Barros, Edgar Scandurra and Mitar Subotic (Suba). I toured with IRA, a very famous brasilian rockband, played cymbals on one of their CD..s, participated in the band Solano Star on stage and TV and in their, even awarded, MTV-videos. These were one of the most fascinating experiences in my life, as we managed to create a fusion of quite different music/dance styles. Later I had the honour to present my art and/or work for and with worldwide wellknown artists like Hossam Ramzy, Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin), Cheb Khaled and Jorge ben Jor.In 1999 I came to live in Frankfurt-Germany. Here I danced for the local turkish, moroccan and arabian communities, worked at festivities in Hotels and local institutions like "Frankfurter Verband" or Caritas, worked in a "Journey through the dance styles" on a new years event at the Gallus-theatre and choregraphed and danced a bedouin tribal dance show for the parade of cultures, a traditional multi-cultural event at Frankfurt. At October 2007 I had the great pleasure to work again with my beloved sister and her husband, Serena and Hossam Ramzy, in the show "Dance Queens of the Nile" at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London. After all these years of working, my ideal is still the delightment to dance, but it has evolved. I am always working to improve basically the egyptian dance styles but I want to be open to fusion it with other styles of music and dance with all respect to it..s cultural roots and identity.P.S. The 2 songs on my profile are written and performed by Hossam Ramzy & Phil Thornton, from the Album : Enchanted Egypt (Label:New World Music) Real masterpieces!!!
