Welcome to Sahara South - the world of international African Cultural Connections in New York City. Sahara South (formerly known as Jaheed's JazzLoft)is a private loft space on the west edge of Manhattan, NYC. We have played strong role in the world of international African Cultural Connections in New York City - a gathering place for artists, musicians, poets, writers, actors, photographers, dancers, freedom fighters and cultural warriors for over 30 years. We at Sahara South, have successfully woven an amazing cultural tapestry, blending wonderful parties, great food, live performances, theater events, incredible mixed media presentations and fantastic guests - including Fela Kuti, Miles Davis, Amiri Baraka, Rashidah Ismaili, Something Positive w/Cheryl Byron, Max Roach, Ntozake Shange, Gloria Naylor, Duma Ndolvu, Moshood, Serious Bizness w/Ngoma & Jaribu, Danny Glover, Sister Black Rose, Melvin Van Peebles, Olu Dara, Renee McClean, Hugh Masekela, Ralph Carter, Ornette Coleman, Oliver Lake.....and tributes to Bob Marley, Malcolm X, Marvin Gaye, Peter Tosh....to name a few. We also celebrate Kwanzaa, New Year's Eve Parties, Fashion Shows, Readings of Plays, Spoken Word presentations, Film screenings (featuring independent filmmakers and discussion with the filmmaker) - the space is also available for private parties.
