THIS IS A MONTAGE OF SOME OF THE PROJECTS THAT I HAVE PRODUCED & DIRECTEDGerald K. Barclay,
Writer/Producer/DirectorAs a young boy growing up in his native Liberia, West Africa, Gerald K. Barclay or “Gee-Bee†as he is professionally known, was fascinated with film and television images. At the age of twelve, his family was forced to flee their homeland to America settling in Staten Island, New York. He attended the City University of New York, majoring in television and video production. His first job in film was as a production assistant on the feature King of New York, he also worked on Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever. After graduating (in just two years) he went to work at Miramax, joined the Black Filmmakers Foundation and also formed his own production company Gee Bee Productions.Gee-Bee’s break into the music video scene came in 1993/1994 when he Produced & Directed several ground breaking videos for a hitherto unknown rap group. The group was fellow Staten Islanders Wu Tang Clan and Gee-Bee’s stark imagery in the “Mystery of Chess Boxing†and “M-E-T-H-O-D MAN†videos soon helped establish the group’s hardcore persona. Gee-Bee soon became one of hip-hop’s most requested video directors, ultimately helming the camera for Master P’s No Limit family.Always one to reinvent himself, Gee-Bee sought new challenges, making a jump to the world of feature films. His first film, BLOODY STREETZ, was completed for a budget under a hundred thousand dollars and saw Gee-Bee take on the multiple hats of director, writer, producer, editor…you name it. BLOODY STREETZ, originally entitled BLOODY CRISIS a gritty urban thriller, won critical praise and awards in LA’s Pan African Film Festival. Gee-Bee masterfully concocts a tale of love and revenge through the collision of cultures heretofore unseen on the screen. The film also showcases the powerful range and presence of lead actor, Gano Grills (BAMBOOZLED, SHAFT) who brings street credibility and depth to a character who wrestles with vengeance, love, and salvation. In 2005 Gee-Bee wrote, produced & directed the critically acclaimed LIBERIA: THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE, a documentary about the tragic aftermath of the Liberian civil war and Gerald's personal journey back home to Liberia to confront the past he escaped as a child. THE LOVE OF LIBERTY earned critical reviews by the BBC & Variety Magazine and was later nominated for BEST PICTURE & BEST DOCUMENTARY in the 2005 America Black Film Festival. In 2006, Gee-Bee completed and is set to release WU: THE STORY OF THE WU-TANG CLAN, an epic documentary about the rise and fall of Wu-Tang Clan. Future projects will include ISLAND MENTALITY an action story about the mob and hip-hop nd BULLETPROOF SOUL, an urban drama showcasing the unyielding strength of a young woman who finally finds love amid a life of tragedy.Visit Our Website at: www.GeeBeeProductions.com
