The Stephanie Ozer Quintet has recently completed a hugely successful California tour with Grammy Winner and samba jazz legend Leny Andrade, who is the guest vocalist on her latest CD, "O Começo: New Beginnings in Brazilian Jazz."
The Stephanie Ozer Quintet continues performing to sold out crowds in the SF Bay Area. Pianist,composer and educator, Stephanie Ozer holds a degree in Classical Piano Performance from the University of Michigan School of Music, and has played Klezmer, funk, rock, classical and Brazilian Jazz all over the US. Called "...an exquisite talent..." by Jesse Chuy Varela of the SF Chronicle, she was featured as Unsigned Artist of the Month in Keyboard Magazine in 2005, and is a two time nominee for Best Jazz Artist in the North Bay California Awards. Stephanie has performed at such venues as the Jazz Bakery in LA, San Jose Jazz Festival, Vancouver Folk Festival, Healdsburg Jazz Festival, The Power Center in Ann Arbor MI, The National Women's Music Festival and The Jazz School in Berkeley CA, to name just a few.
Her stellar band includes: Mary Fettig on flutes and saxs,who, at 20, joined the Stan Kenton group as the first woman to play in the band. Besides Stan Kenton, she has performed and toured with Flora Purim and Airto, Marian McPartland, Tito Puente, Toninho Horta, Joe Henderson, Claudia Villela and numerous short tours with celebrity acts. She has performed at many jazz festivals, including Concord, San Francisco, Monterey, Playboy, Hollywood Bowl, Mt. Hood, Chicago, Detroit, Mobile, world's first Women's Jazz Festival in Kansas City, Buffalo, Montreaux, and North Sea.
Randy Vincent, guitar, who has performed and recorded with: Joe Henderson, Dizzy Gillespie, Bobby Hutcherson, Mel Martin, Benny Barth, Mel Graves, Bennett Friedman, Larry Baskett, Peter Welker, Chris Amberger, George Marsh, Smith Dobson, Bill Watrous, George Cables, Tony Dumas, Akira Tana, Billy Childs, Bob Sheppard, Steve Smith, Harold Jones, Bob Badgley, Ernie Watts, Warren Gale, Herb Pomeroy, the Bay Area Jazz Composers' Orchestra, the New Oakland Jazz Orchestra, Dave Eshelman Jazz Garden Big Band and The Turtle Island String Quartet.
Phil Thompson, drums, performs with the Pete Escovedo Orchestra, the Marcos Silva quartet, Quarteto Sonando, Viva Brasil, Sandy Cressman's Homenagem Brasiliera, and has performed with Toninho Horta, Claudia Villela and Ricardo Peixoto, Dori Caymmi, Mark Levine's Latin Tinge, Wild Mango, Rhiannon, Mark Murphy, the Ray Obiedo group, and dozens of other Bay Area ensembles.
Scott Thompson, bass, has performed with Flora Purim and Airto, Omar Sosa, Jesua Diaz, Dori Caymi, Claudia Villela, Jovino Santo-Neto,and Marcos Silva and Chico Pinheiro.
The Rio born,vocal phenomenon Claudia Villela, performs with the quintet frequently in addtion to her own international touring career.
And, Rio samba jazz legend, Leny Andrade, having first met Stephanie by chance after a gig in Rio, joined forces with the quintet for singing on Stephanie's latest CD and on tour in Ca.in the spring on 2007! Flor De Liz
