Growing up in a dog eat dog community (Southill,Limerick) you had two choices, Learn to kill or be killed! (you could keep runnin away,but that aint much of an option) Me,I learned to kill, and Im quite good at it ,thing is, its illegal, haha, So you had to learn to channel this aggression or end up in jail, Having been born in the early 70's, the mother and father were into Sabbath/Zeppelin/Purple, So the sound of a distorted guitar was always mothers milk to me, At the age of about 15 the likes of Guns n roses/Motley crew, were part of everyday listening, but your not gonna release much aggression fannying about with rock chords, So gradually over the next few years I was introduced to such classic thrash bands as, Kreator/Megadeth/Metallica/Overkill/Testament........... But it wasn't till about 88/89 Napalm Deaths 'Scum' assaulted the ears and showed me true aggression was achievable through music, Then came 'Scream Bloody Gore/Altars of Madness' and fuck man,to this day, those records make you wanna tear some fucker to pieces, So the stage was set, We were goin to be a Death Metal band, and blast our violence off a stage, First band up was 'Retribution'.........Legends! That band is still alive and well,Allbeit with only 1 remaining member,still fukin rokin! Two great gigs of note for Retribution were firstly our debut,fuk man they cant make em like that anymore; It was essentially a live performance of 'Scum' and a few other grinds, sang through a traffic bollard,to great effect,haha, But such was the violence inside this venue that passersby were concerned enough to call the law, So, Big raid, ball of drugs found, and they actually shut down the venue(Flag cafe..RIP..) Through this we saw the damage we could cause and made an effort to try and professionalise our set, we did, and pulled off quite a few real good soundin cover gigs, If I ever wanted a line up back together its Retribution,'Shes not dead yet lads!' Second band of note is 'Estrange' We actually recorded quite a decent demo about 1994,this demo can be found if you link back to bebo page from my myspace page/the reason for bebo page is I can put up as many tracks as I like,so theres a home for the likes of this 'Estrange'demo, Go check it out,quality metal for its day, Sadly this band didnt last more than a couple of gigs as the rest of the band wanted to buckle down for a real crack at the music business and I was a violent drunken bastard,haha, So we went our seperate ways, When I eventually sobered up I realised I had 2 kids, So it was time to catch a hold of myself,get a job,cut down from 30 joints a day to 20,haha, Next thing I knew I cut 15mm off the top of the opposing finger on my right hand, Fuck man,that was the biggest bollox of all time, My guitar playin was fukin over,The End. Not quite, A couple of years back a friend of mine showed me a little 'zoom palm size' 32 v trak recorder, Fuck I thought,Whatever about makin mistakes on stage(with the bloody stump incapable of holdin a plectrum)These things can simply be redone with this technology, Combined with all this myspace carry-on, A man could start blastin metal once more, Although the ultimate aim is to get enough material of my own together to rebuild a band that we can spread the violence far and wide, So, myspace seems a good place to start spreadin the shit ,get the name out there, And most importantly, gettin the Metal out there!
